After seeing Elise Parts new 111R wheels (Below) I was again tempted to price up the cost of switching to the Elise's 4 stud pattern so that I could run these fantastic looking wheels.

Posted Image

After dropping all the required parts in to my Elise parts basket the total came to an astonishing £2,319.10 with the VAT!

Kathmandu on that Idea so I thought it must be worth dropping Elise parts a line and see if they'd be willing to do a VX/Europa version of the wheel, even if only on a limited run?

Got a response for Geary this morning:

Hi Roberty,

I am looking into doing this

Please contact me in 2 weeks time and I will let you know the outcome

Many thanks

Geary J Powell

Managing Director

Sounds promissing to me and maybe we can help Geary make up his mind on whether this is viable for him to put in to production?

So who's interested? (I'm assuming the price would be similar to the Elise fitment wheels at £675 a set plus VAT.)

8 and 9kg according to the EP website.

I might have been interested but they only come in black.

Nice, I'm not in the market for wheels just now but when I am they would certainly be top of the list.

Sorry if I'm being a tad thick, but isn't it just a case of changing the original equipment hub flange and bearing pack
as shown on here:

Elise hub link

Total for four is £ 279.80 +VAT

Would then have far more wheel / tyre options availble.

Anyone able on comment on my theory....

Kev

Not far off Kev but there is a little more to it:

S2 Wheel Bearing 2off Without ABS/Speed Sensor £ 135.90
S2 Wheel Bearing 2off With ABS/Speed Sensor £ 139.90
Ultimax Turbo Discs S2 Full Set £ 253.00
Wheel Spacer Size: 5mm x 2 £ 31.90
Longer Wheel Bolts S2 Set of 16 Bolts, black £ 22.95

Plus the cost of:

S2 Elise Exige 111R Wheels set £ 675.00
Yokohama A039 Tyres Exige Full Set £ 715.05

Plus the Governments Vague Addition to the Total or VAT!

Hmm, if you are doing hubs anyway, then this could be tempting. You don't have to run such fancy discs after all. Also, the wheels should come with bolts. Then you are in the £400-500 range, plus wheels and tires of course, when it is at least £300 to do new stock hubs and rotors IIRC.

I suppose that the S2 hubs don't mess up the abs/speedo?

They're hardly a zillion times different from the TD1.2s which are a fraction of the cost.

A Zillion times different? no maybe not but they are significantly different and that is what the VX lacks when it comes to wheels, choice.

The Ultimax Turbo Discs are the cheap ones! Fancy discs are twice the price.

I've bought a few sets of wheels in my time and have never been supplied new Bolts but the main issue is that the VX would require the Longer non-standard Wheel Bolts because of the spacers required to correct the offset.

And the ABS/Speed sensors are identical to the VX ones.

I expect that S2 discs are more, but standard VX discs are £50 for a full set last I heard.

Hmmm, I always get new bolts with wheels. They have to be conical or spherical to match the wheels.

Cheers for the confirmation on the abs sensors. thumbsup

I agree, they are nice enough but very similar to what we can already get, I would like to see some different styles, never really been a fan of staight multi spoke designs. I really liked the Rial Nogaro on the VX but I don't think you can get them in the correct fittment.

I like the standard look. I would really like some 5 spoke fronts (16 inch) that would look nice with original rears.

Don't get me wrong I presently have 16/17 TD's. They are great, correct off set, light and strong.

But surely the market for 16 inch fronts to a very similar design to the standard rears would be a massive seller!!!!

I'd have some slightly wider 16" replicas of the NA 5 spoke wheels for the front in a flash. Still by far the best looking wheel fitted to a VX.

I must admit I'd be more than happy with that option myself.

I like the look of my standard wheels it's just the wheel size and lack of tyre options for the front's that make me want to change.

Great idea but can anyone make them?

I'd have some really lightweight track only 15" all round = significant unsprung mass weight loss and much lower

I've always liked the look of those and you can never have too many sets of wheels. I'm interested in what EP come back with regard to offset weight etc.

Get some racing steelies from the US. They will make them whatever width/offset you want for a pretty good price. ;)
