There's a basic setup below which with a few 1/2TB hard disks(up to max of 4!) will get you a great little media/fileserver.
With the 1GB RAM chuck on Linux and something like Amahi and you're done.
It'll struggle a bit with 1GB and Windows 2008(see ESX Testbed below) but be fine with Windows 2003 and just file sharing, but extra RAM is pretty cheap.
For the extra nerdy out there this thing will even run VMware vSphere ESXi!
