Anyone ever considered that the rear view mirror is too big? Seeing as 2/3rds of what you see is headrest i think I might change it. Is there a legal requirement for them to be of a certain size?

Frogman and Tadpole have been on this for quite a while, CF one about 1/3 size 
. It will fit onto the exsiting bracket.

You can get small suction cup mounted mirrors from Halfords for about £5
I use one and I think a few others on here do too.
I think I'm going to have to have one of those CF ones when they're ready.

Judging by the look of the picture in the other thread this looks like the later mirror. I had to have my windscreen replaced and the new windscreen came with a larger "block" stuck to the windscreen so the dealer cut this off and stuck the old mounting back on leaving some of the gluey residue on the screen. Not the best job but I had had enough of them to bother complaining. Early cars had a longer arm from window to mirror, later ones had the shorter arm.

take it out all-together..you'll get a better view out of the windscreen I have and do.. don't know about the legality though

I used one of those mirrors that traffic cops have clipped onto the nearside car mirror for the passenger to be able to see behind. I turned it upside down and screwed an old Astra base to it to fix it to the winscreed, you can just make it out in this >pic<. A bit Blue Peter" but it works, less vibration through it too. I'll post better pics tonight.

AM's right a number of us have these fitted, the good news is you can move it up, or down to suit the top you have on, or remove it for track days.You can get small suction cup mounted mirrors from Halfords for about £5
I use one and I think a few others on here do too.

Last weekend I bought a small stick on mirror of about 60x35mm in a carshop. It is a little bended and normally used to cover the 'dead angle view' of the normal side-mirror. Its mounted on a little foot wich I did stick on the original mirror base. It's not ideal, but it's very small and gives a view on what's coming behind you, and that's what matters. I'll post some pics next week.

I may be wrong, but isn't the legal requirement to have two mirrors on a vehicle, without it being specified which two? (Or possibly an offside one is a requirement).
Vans don't have a rear view mirror fixed to the screen, so should be
to do without one in a VX.

This is the base from an Astra (Mk5 I think) rear view mirror. I detached the mirror which left me with the ball that I filed down to give a flat surface to mate the new mirror to. I drilled two 3mm holes into this, one through the ball and one further up in the stalk.
Hopefully you can mke out the two small self tapping screws that are holding the mirror on to the base. There is no danger of it coming loose and falling off.
As I said these are meant for patrol cars and this one was acquired for testing and evaluation through work Unfortunately I have no idea on price but I see no reason why Vauxhall could not supply them to the public as blind spot mirrors.

i am a 'white van man' (during the day) and haven't used a rear-view mirror for years (LBH renault master van) ..wing mirrors are more! than adiquate if used properly/wisely
i'd still recommend removel (but it seems i'v in a very small minority here) so i think i'll leave that one alone ..but if you've got to see what's behind you (chicks or not
)..then Trescoman's suggestion of the suction-cup mini mirrors (didn't some get theirs from Mothercare)..is well worth considering....they're removable and adjustable to all roof options

Yes, the housing is fixed and the mirror moves around inside it.Do you adjust this small mirror by tilting the mirror in the new housing?
