:o I heard today from a Vauxhall person (one who really ought to know but wishes to remain anonymous) that ALL cars (from 03 ish on) are to be recalled for replacement bodywork because of crappy fibreglass! That's one hell of a bill for Lotus - and how on earth are they going to do it?

I think that all the body panels are made in France (forget the name of the company) so presmably if it's down to poor quality manufacture then Lotus will be passing the cost through to them

So lotus are blaming bad paintwork/quality/bubbles/flaking general pants... on the quality of the fibreglass.. not the inability to keep it clean and paint it properly? intresting... woder if they are going to recall all the elises as well ? lol... probably a recall on a case by case basis surely ?

This would be great news for almost everyone might even save a few tears and stop us seeing our lovely cars suffer. Lets face it most of us know there has been some poor quality work on the vx's.

I was told that it is not yet general knowledge, no reference etc yet, but it is imminent. Apparently not enough hardener in the fibreglass mixture,so it is sensitive to temperature fluctuations and below required quality. He was a bit hazy on what age cars are involved, but the earliest bubbling cases I know about are 03 - unless anyone knows different? I expect logistically they could only do it as cases came in - but at least we won't have to argue any more! I think Mr Thorne needs to get some accurate info from his Vauxhall cronies... :poke: On and yes, they are recalling Elises as well! Nightmare!

erm.. there are about 3 or 4 of us on 51 plates where the back has bubbled and flaked off with temp changes in winter.. moisture stuck in firbreglass.. ?

sounds right.. but I think they are kidding themselves if they think it's 03 on...

:o :o :o Does this mean that I would have to shell out again for Armourfend? I can't see Vauxhall paying for it. Are recalls compulsory - i.e. would it be my choice to either take a chance with potentially suspect fibreglass panels or go ahead and get the remedial work done but have to pay for more Armourfend?
