I am around 6'1" and have the seat pushed back as far as possible and find that my head is resting on the plastic bit behind the headrest. I'm a bit concerned that if I get shunted my head is going to crack off the plastic bit rather than the head rest. Anyone else got that problem? Is there a fix? B)

I tend to slump in the seat until my head is on the soft bit

I have the same problem. It's not your height, but your long back. I guess all the tall guys that drive VXs have short backs and long legs.

Anyway, Ricky 2772 posted **this ** a while back. Drastic, but effective. I have seen another amputated one at an early OGLE meet. Can't remember who.

Meanwhile, put your seat forward and snuggle down a bit. That should do it!

The rear part is velcroed in place. When this is off three small bolts are revealed which retain the front part. The metal bits dont look too pretty, but at least I have a padded headrest

I have mentioned this b4 on another 'tall drivers' topic on this site. I only have the problem during the morning as i shrink during the day. Just try getting into your car after a long day and i'll bet your head doesn't touch it then, strange but true! monster

Mine does but i'm almost 6'6". Slumping in the seat doesn't help! Was in an Elise 111S at the weekend and it didn't have these plastic haemorrage-inducing weapons. The plastic really worries me. I've been thinking about trying to make a soft pad to stick on to the plastic thing. Maybe a gel-filled mouse or keyboard rest with some gratuitous modifications...

If you were to remove the hard plastic cover, i reckon it wouldn't be to hard to make a slip on sock thing to slide up over the metal. perhaps cut to shape, and stitch or glue  two pieces of Alcantara/leather, have some thinnish foam in their for padding, bit of velcro at the top to hold in place. Sounds like a job for Frog and Tadpoles sewing machine. B)

Its funny, im 6'22 and my head is nowhere near the plastic bits. My mate whos about 6'5" and weighs 18 stone (and hes not fat) tried getting in it the other day. He found it impossible to get in it with the roof off, so i taken it off. He then got in and i tried to put the roof back on, but his head was too high. It was quite funny really :D :D His head was obviously in line with the plastic bits, but as he said, and i thought the same thing, if your head is that high up, visibility is surely greatly reduced as you are looking straight at the top of the windscreen surround

I'm 6'2 and dont have that problem as i sit low in the seat. If i sit upright then yes my head does hit it. If you think its bad in a std seat, try a VXR seat as they have an even lower back. One of my mates is 6ft and about 20stone, he can get in it ok with the roof on. Once he's in i have to search for the handbreak without exciting him. Everyone should see him get out of it at least once in there life, he usual ends up lying on the floor with his feet still in the car :groupjump:

hi, ive removed part of my headrest for that reason, behind the plastic cover is a large metal plate, it is welded onto the roll bar behind. if you are careful you can saw it off. i had a go and made a moon shape in it to mount a video camera for track days. i guess its there to protect the drivers head from the read window glass smashing in an accident... cheers damon

I'm 6'6"-ish and about 17 stone and i fit fine, in fact the car is very comfortable for me. I can get in and out no problem, roof on. Visibility isn't a problem at all, although i cant read the speedo from 50-120 without ducking my head a bit. It's just that plastic thing. I'm going to have a crack at it this weekend I think.

I had this problem too until I got a mate to hit me across the back of the head with a bit of 4x2. Now I've got a nice dent in the back of my skull and I don't have the problem anymore. Just headaches  This has been mentioned before under a VXR thread because the VXR seats accentuate the problem. can't find the thread just now but I seem to remember someone mentioning they were going to try a fix but I don't remember what happened next. Must be the concussion. :D

:o Hi Waverunner, I remember the thread too, the plastic was there to stop the seat flexing excessively in a crash, reducing spinal injuries etc There was fear of removing a safety feature and impacting your insurances I'm 6'4 and have a longer back than most (not that i have measured, but i have only a 33' inside leg) anyway, i find if i move the seat nearer the wheel a number of things happen - i don't hit my head on the hard plastic thing - i do not have to rest my knee on the side - i am generally a bit more comfortable IMO try moving the seat in before chopping bits off

Have tried that actually. i'm similar to you, in that i have a long back. 6'6" but my leg length is only 34". I moved the seat one click forward from fully back but it still didn't clear the plastic thing. another click forward and it was too uncomfortable...
