got myself a dv cam for my birthday and have been looking at ways to mount it and have a play around... i saw paulb's set up at brunters - not possible for us un-modded guys. so ricky, ben or anyone who's doing it, how and with what. i tried a little experiment with this set up...

a bit wobbly, but i reckon a couple of hooks and 2 small light chains hooked around the ball sprigget under the camera bracket and fixed onto the grill would keep it pretty steady and make some nice cuts for a stretch of country road shot once from in-car and once from tow-eye cam. before anybody is stupid enough to try it, make sure that any bounce can't anti-clockwise loosen the tow eye!!! can you imagine.

in-car is a struggle at the minute. finding a fixing point and having room to lock-off the magic arm is very difficult.... so little of the interior is actually solid! :blink:

looks good skiddo - that tow eye cam would produce excellent footage but you 'd have to have some serious faith in the mount! :blink:

Not so sure I'd trust it myself. What's our resident engineer Steve Crisp got to say on the matter...?

I've no idea if the company are any good or anything, but they seem to be pimping some serious kit.

My biggest concern with externally mounted kit is impact damage off gravel and stuff. I was thinking about constructing some sort of foam enclosure, crude but effective.

foam case is a great idea, ben. adjustable strap fixed top of bonnet to camera bracket would stop flex better than the chain idea, too - now i think about it...

Surely pencil cams with analogue feed via a long cable to the camera safely inside the car is the way to go. Although that double suction mount does look the business.

In that case, take a look at >RF Concepts<. They have loads of small cameras that attach to your camera via long cables. That link takes you to the bit about attaching them to helmets but gives a broad taste of the stuff they sell. Again, I've not used them but they seem to do it all..

Don't underestimate those suction mounts. We stuck one on the wing of a glider and went flying in the mountains and it was still there after landing!!
