got a little bit of a tricky one here.
on the way to the national my car cut out.. the dash lights died and the battery light flickered for a couple seconds and then died also. I turned the key off and the engine carried on running eventually stalling out in front of the Emmerdale studios
after sat outside for a couple hours i tracked the problem down to a short from the alternator to the manifold, when i was re-building it on the friday the dipstick came out of the sump and when i pushed it back in i must of got it in between the cable and the block pulling the alternator cable tight against the manifold and eventually after some 15 miles the vibrations from the car wore trough the sleeving and made contact with the manifold. after some how managing to take the alternator off and fixing the cable as not to short out again i tried starting the car and it wouldn't fire.
i plugged opcom in and i couldnt read the ECU, i could read the immobiliser and it came up with no connection to W-line.. at this point i called defeat and got towed home.
finally got around to diagnosing the issues.
if i turn on the ignition i get all the usual sounds and the fuel pump would start as normal etc but i wasn't getting fuel pressure in the line.
- i have reset the ECU, transponders and the transponder ring and reprogrammed them all up, the transponders do fail when programming but when you go back in it says its programmed.
- i have tried re-programming a 2nd hand transponder
- i have tried a second hand transponder ring and that made no difference.
- i have tried to read another ecu and it wouldn't read that either.
- i have tried a new fuel pump relay, no difference
- i have tried bypassing the ecu relay, no difference
i tested for continuity through the battery and i did get a bleep which would suggest a short, but i have tried again and now cant get any beep.
i also tested the resistance and when you pull out the ECU fuse the resistance goes from 12.91 - 16.50.
has anyone come across this before?
