Seat Lowering Solved!...well Kinda

So a solution, that will get better from where I have it now, it is quick and easy, does not give you much, maybe 10-15mm but is noticeable, particularly if you need that space for a lid!

1. Take seat out.

2. Remove joggle type solid insert from the front of the runners.

3. Flip the joggle so it is upside down from the way it is originally installed, and insert into the rear of the runner.

4. Make sure that you also flip the runner hex bolts from front to rear as well otherwise the seat will not slide

5. Refit seat

I reckon I now have just 5mm between my seat and the floor, maybe less, my plan is to machine 5mm off the joggle (it appears massively over engineered) and then re-install the seat and add a mm shim as required until the seat slides, thus the seat could not go any lower than I will have set it.

I hope this helps some people out there, I understand if you do not want to do the milling bit, I am going to run some FEA on the joggle before I do it.

The only way to get it lower would be to get a different seat design like a B5 or something like that.  But that is less padding...

I went mad and chopped the bottom out of mine bonded in a flat bottom and mounted the seat as absolutely as low as it would go. I now have a Reverie drivers seat that works for me so much better than the Tillet I tried for a short while. Paul

I am getting the, joggles machined shortly, so will have to remove the seat again, I will take some pictures then.

Is joggle a made up word?

Hi p4acks, nope afraid not, is a metalworking term, go look it up.  Technically is in sheet metal, but the shape is similar, hence I called it Joggle type.

Hi Aerodynamic,

No it does not mean welding, if you remove the joggle from the frontof the runner you will see in the rear of the runner at there are 2 holes in the runner that fit the joggle, simple orientate the joggle so that you get more head room, and re-fix.

Is this the seat joggle?

Hello,

Yes it is the joggle, it does move the seat forward, however the runner still goes far enough back (If you look the seat runner oversails the rail in you pic, it does the same at the back).  I was looking to do it over the weekend but ended up changing all my brakes instead.  THe joggle needs small mods to allow for the seat to slide all the way back again, but it really does get nearly there.  Once I am sorted I will post the results with a full run of photos I promise.  Work has kicked in this week, so probably this weekend will be the time for me to sort this.

I am keen to sort this, like I said once completed there will be no way of getting the standard seat any lower using what is in essence the same runners and brackets we already have on the cars.
