Project Hawkwind

So as some of you know I have had the VX for a number of years now.  Done a few mods, lightened flywheel, gaz, etc but now I thought I would document the big one.  Just as she ticks round 90,000 miles, on goes a supercharger.  Progress so far is I have removed the rear clam, and all the relevant engine components ready to fit at that end.  Next job is the front end.

Nice, though that large roll of toilet paper makes me wonder if you should really be dumping on your engine !

well you know.  If I leave the garage I have to fight my way back

I've just gone through the same. Did brakes, suspension clutch and flywheel first. Supercharger has just gone on. Will be moving it for the first time since September under it's own power at the weekend. Going dutch I pressume?

Indeed I am going dutch.  Can't see any reason to go any other way these days!

Any progress on this, or has that little flood warning been giving you sleepless nights ?!

Soooo quick update (thanks Nev )

I completed this a couple of weekends ago, but what with holidays and work haven't had a chance to update.

Initial thoughts are... POWEERRRRR!!! Dutch ECU is perfect plug-and-play.  Haven't had to make any tweeks to take the car out initially.  Only point would be that it is very harsh transition coming off the throttle even a little bit, so need to have a look at the throttle mapping to solve this I think.  I have a bunch more other pics (which I'll put up later), plus a couple of other bits I did while I was messing about with clams off etc...

In short.  I love the new power.  Feels like the VX genuinely deserves it!  And I can confirm, having owned an NA, and Stage 2 Turbo and now a SC, the SC's power delivery is far superior.  It also feels a lot more usable that the turbo and much more predictable

Mapping should sort out your off throttle response, however if it doesn't then look at your bypass valve - it might not be opening.

Yep 250 SC is the sweet spot

I'll have a look at that this weekend.  And good way to test it? (I am assuming this is the little black cylinder just after the TB?)

Get someone to watch it as you blip the throttle, the lever should move.

that's assuming it's got the vacuum line attached properly

EP big brake conversion (4pot front with 308mm discs, 2pot rear) (Newly released EP front calipers rather then AP which give piston size choices 34/36mm or 36/40mm and internal crosspipes rather than exposed ones)

Coupe conversion, quick release clams + aero

Re-spray

Interior mods

excellent news!

They look great, now I need to find someone who can get me a VX220 decal for them as I am getting them without the lotus decals because, well, Lotus.... 

Seeing as we've mirrored upgrades at about the same time with the same mileage etc, guess I'm going to have to take a look at these now! 

I noticed the other day some company spinning their wares as producing caliper vinyl to make your normal calipers an exotic colour. I'm not terribly fussed on this but I imagine you can get some of this more heat resistant vinyl cut in the vx220 logo.

I bought a house, so the body mods are going to have to wait

However 4 pot upgrade should be finalised in the next couple of weeks so will report back on the EP calipers.  As Joe mentions, these are really light, and look like great bits of kit.  Very excited to test them out
