chinky chinky Welcome to .org

Good idea for a thread too. My first car in 1986 (yes I'm old) was an Austin Maestro 1.6 HLX, which was the fastet car in insurance group 3 back in the days when they only had 10 groups. I'm pleased to say I rapidly followed that up with a golf GTI.

Welcome!

In 1985 my first car was a 2 door 1975 (P Reg) Ford Escort 1.3 Popular Plus. In many ways it shared many similarities with my VX:

2 doors

No Power steering

No Aircon

Prone to water leaking inside / damp under the carpets

The battery was sh*t and would die in 2 weeks without use

Rattles and shakes

Rear wheel drive

Manual window winders

No central locking

sh*t windscreen wipers

No decent MW radio signal and station (ask your Dad what MW is but has been around for 70 years+)

sh*t heater

Huge fun in the snow - and I mean huge fun...

Always smiling when driving them

I'm 18 when i drive them

16 years separated the birth of my first car and my VX at their respective factories. It's amazing to realise that no progress was made in those 16 years.....

Of course, I am only joking as my VX is night and day a  better car and even though it is 16 years old this year it is still a beautiful liccle baby!

Welcome to the forum. My first car was a 1999 Rover 200 BRM which I loved (first car love) but took the orange mouth off it for keeping a low profile. I was able to reattach it when the mood struck with cable ties - Good old days! My only foray into a k series and was a really great car in my 18 months.

A 1979 mini clubman 1100, which soon turned into a 1275 turbo from the mg metro, just wish I'd upgraded the brakes from drums all round as it was a death trap!

A long time ago I had a day with something called an ERA MINI, this was late eighties/early nineties, can't remember much about but it was an original MINI with a body kit, plush interior & an MG Metro turbo engine. Went like stink but couldn't stop despite whatever they'd done to the brakes, luckily it went round corners.
