.... running at those levels of boost ~16psi I don't think it should surge. Otherwise all the people with stage 2 levels of tune would be complaining of the same issue.

Yep, correct. Getting surge during steady acceleration with that engine and turbo is something I've never heard of, you have a special problem!

No need to insult me... :( Will do some more testing and report back.

Okay, so I drove home from work with the maf disconnected. Seems improved a lot, but it does still happen on some partial throttle. Just fluttering though, the bogging down and jerking seems to have gone completely. Is that just because the air being pushed back out the inlet side when it's stalling, isn't messing up the maf readings because it's disconnected? Or does it suggest the maf is dodgy? What does the ECU do without the maf, just run rich? I'm going to plug it back in and go for another drive to be sure but I feel like it felt a lot smoother and better overall without the maf connected.

I think you may have two issues, a dodgy maf or wiring to it being one. With the maf unplugged the ecu uses other metrics for air flow, Sizetenboots will know what it uses as he's the ecu guru on here. It's perfectly safe though. Have you tested the vac solenoid?

Could be two issues. By vac solenoid I guess you mean the one under the inlet manifold? If so, I have run with it bypassed ,but not since unplugging the maf. I'm not sure how to test it other than bypassing it.

Pull it out and blow in it in the flow direction, air should only come out of one of the exit tubes. Put you finger over the one it is coming out of and blow hard, no air should leak from the other. If that works as expected connect a 12v feed to it and the valve should divert the air out of the opposite tube to last time. Make sure the original isn't leaking like before.
