About time I bought one as I won't always be racing and able to use a shiny RNRMMSA one. Along with the fact its hard to prise the Navy out of them and I like the idea of fully putting my car in one and closing the zip

I've not called for any discount yet but looking at the cheapest steal type (works out as 62kg over a 55kg ally one) is £320 for a 4.5m x 3m one. But the 6m x 3m is only £400 so not much more.

Anyone got any other recommendations?

Officially I shouldnt be in them next year as I'm a veteran now but it'll be handy for testing and the future. I just don't know where to stop spending though 

Buy a double one so I can share lol

That' the other bonus, on normal use 2 cars will fit with the nose sticking out but if one needs working on you can put it in with plenty of space. I'm leaning towards the large one.

At £400 it looks like my family is getting a joint Christmas present though.

Thats thrown a spanner in the works. They are very cheap. Guessing it wouldn't be much extra to change the one of the panels for another door one too.

I was thinking pink would help me stand out at the racetrack.

The joints on the rockawning ones don't look great quality. I wonder if they would suffer if you are putting it up ad down all the time. I'm guessin yours titan got put up and left?

Based on trawling the rockwings site, the Rhino range would be more comprable to the product I got from Surf

I'm not sure what the grades of awning material mean, rockawnings use 400D or 600D and surf&turf use 380g :/

I'd rather get something that lasts being put up and down repeatedly. 

Just as a warning, it's pretty hard to put a 3 x 3 up on your own so a 6 x 3 would be almost impossible. Not a problem if you have help but I find when it's pissing down very few people volunteer to lend a hand

it'll be horses for courses on the which is "better" long term I reckon.

Maybe two smaller ones for easy erection

The joints are fine, my mate has an identical Rock Awnings Explorer to mine that we've used for the previous 2 seasons in the 750 Motor Club Locost championship.

Think I saw your and fiveoclock's cars at Silverstone earlier this year, was too busy spannering to introduce myself. Got some spare joints just in case as they were cheap, but we never had to use them. The Surf & Turf Robusta joints are made from the same material so the difference is mainly cosmetic.

We didn't bother with extra door panels at race circuits and just rolled up an entire panel. At home I regularly drive the VX220 through the door, even though the door isn't as wide as the car I tuck the flaps behind the legs to give a 3m opening

Did loads of research when buying as I'm nerdy about these things, the Rock Awnings Explorer frame is stronger but the Surf & Turf Robusta has steel feet, can't compare the PVC fabric as one uses gsm and the other uses denier.

Being so similar I went with the one that's nearly half the price, at £239 I considered it almost a consumable but both awnings are still going strong.

I have put up these 6m x 3m on my own a few times and it's not much fun, a lot easier and only takes couple of minutes if you borrow a second person.

If you really want spend £499 get the Rhino 45, it's far far better than the Robusta and based on my experience of the Explorer it would be near indestructible but personally I don't see the point.
