Will the original key have to be in the ignition barel for the transponder to send out the signal, or can the key just be next to the transponder for it to work? Just trying to figure out the best way for it to work!

Next to it may work but possibly not. Best for it to be in the barrel. When I built my race car when it still had std ECU I took the chip out of the key and glued it to the ring and it worked.

If you have the transponder from a different car and are using the original ecu then this is your problem You need matching ecu, immobiliser and chip (in the key)

 

By Immobiliser do you mean transponder ring?
