I've recently moved into a shared house nearer work, I had been looking for a while as I was sick of the commute and it was slowly dawning on me that i'm not likely to buy my first house any time soon! I came across a very vague ad for a room in a "Spanish Villa", I went for a viewing and immediately fell in love with the place, it was built in the 1950's and has stayed in the family ever since.  It was a hotel / B&B back in the day until the owners passed away a few years ago, since then it's been rented as a house share and has become a bit run down! It's set on a 3 acre plot with various outbuildings / annexes which are also rented and there was also a tennis court and pool which looked very run down!

I decided to go ahead and moved in about a month ago, unfortunately the landlady has decided to sell the place and there's planning pending to build 4 houses on the plot, seems like a massive shame as it's so quirky and could easily be modernised into an incredible home in a desirable location but there's more profit in knocking it down.

I was keen to get the outdoor areas up together for summer BBQ's and parties so talked the owners into me bringing the pool and tennis court back up to standard, below is a photo diary of our progress, thoroughly pleased with how it's turned out so far.

I should add that my brother and I had zero expereince in cleaning swimming pools but figured it can't be that hard! We started draining the pool and found that the algae went a weird purple colour!

Once it was about half full we started jet washing the sides, it came off fairly easily but it was hot and so wanted to get it off before it started drying on.

We got the majority of the water out and realised what we'd got ourselves into, it was horrible at the bottom!

Loads of palm leaves to clear up.

Working late into the night, finally got it drained and emptied ready for one last jetwash.

The next day we started topping it up, left it filling whilst I was at work, it took about 4 days with a large bore hose!

Excellent work. Fascinated by the purple residue - presumably it's a manganese reaction but no idea what would cause it.
