Opel Speedster In Poor Condition, Should I Buy It?

I can buy one Speedster, but it is in pretty poor condition. There are many smaller cracks under the paint all around the car. Is it easily fixable or no? Can I do it myself? I am worried that later after new paint, it will crack again. Car was already resprayed, so there was some small incidents even before (I saw bondo patch on doors). Chassis should be fine. Owner said that he has spare front clam, so front should be fine without much trouble. Other panels needs some repairs, and then full respray. It has 120k kilometers. He wants 10k€ for it. I think it is a bit too much. Do you think I should pull the trigger for 9k€? Or better not?

If you are lucky you can sometimes find decent ones for 13k-14k But then you must be very fast... They are usually sold within minutes. If the clam is in a bad shape what about the rest? The better car is the better buy.

Does it have a decent service history?

No service history. The front clam had some damage that was "repaired" with duct tape, i saw there also one zip tie to hold both front clam pieces together. Front lights were ratling around like they were not even properly installed. But again, he has spare front clam. There is one signal repeater light missing, one side air vent missing, the door sill plate (black plastic) is totally broken. Rear clam had some crack at the top, behind boot (I check it from inside, no repair), and some damage near the wheel. There were more underpaint cracks here and there. I think it could be interesting project, but I am not sure about how much is it worth and if its not a money pit

If its that bad on the outside you can pretty much guess (without any proof) the underside/suspension is just as bad Sounds expensive and you will quickly spend more on it than it is worth

If spending more than it is worth was a disqualification for purchase, most of us would never have bought..... These cars deteriorate rapidly if not looked after and cost a bit to fix. But a car that is bought at a reasonably low price and restored over time can be a brilliant thing. I've owned an immaculate Lotus Elise and I worried all the time about making sure that it didn't deteriorate. The VX has gradually become amazing and I enjoy it so much more because I rescued it....

I wouldnt touch that particular example, and I'm happy with a shed of car....

I guess it's an LHD unless it comes from Ireland. I ve noticed that LHD market tends to be more expensive than prices seen in the UK. May be it's just me thinking this way...?? 10000 euros for what you describe is too much money and the risk of lot of troubles I think.

Indeed. High milers with some flaw are around 15k euro, and the good ones around 20k euro (NA's)

Damaged ones/project cars  do between 8 and 12k euro.

Buy the one from Gertje. He works on speedsters/has experience with them...(races also with his speedster)

 

Slovakije/Belgium should be doable

10k is attractive price (as Speedsters are more expensive than vx220),

Clam and paint is fixable, you would anyway take clams soon off for some car repairs/tuning.

I mean taking clam off occasionally is good to have all the bolts in proper shape, not rusted.

Chassis is not fixable. In your shoes, I would make sure suspension points haven't been damaged/repaired.

120k is not much for the N/A engine, they are durable and reliable.
