I had some issues yesterday with cambelt.
Just wondered what peoples experiences were. I replaced all pulleys and water pump ( put the pump with the notch pointing towards the notch in plastic cambelt casing ). But the belt just wouldn't go on.
In the end I had to fiddle it and get it on with the crankshaft out of position and the turn the crank slightly to pull up all the slack between the exhaust cam and the crank, I had to do this with the tensioner pulley not fitted to the car, then I had to fit the tensioner while the belt was in place, put the bolt in and then tension it all.
With the tensioner pulley fitted to the car the belt just would not slide over. It was always either getting stuck between the tensioner and the water pump or the tensioner and the crankshaft. It just would not go on.
I tried starting from the crank and going over the cam pulleys last, but that didn't seem like it was going to work either.
Does this sound typical for Z20LET? All the timing marks are good now and it runs fine. Not driven it hard yet.
