Rear Subframe Removal Guide

Do both the rear suspension assemblies need be completely striped down?
I'm aware that need to disconnect brake hoses at the rear, and I'd guess rear / lower engine mount.
Also looks like I need to jack / crane the engine to release the engine mounts which then allows access to the subframe bolts?
Engine mounts can then be refitted without rear subframe.
Another guess, but if I was just replacing the shims the I could leave the wishbones in situ ish, and support the rear subframe with a crane, whereas if I were to repaint/refinish subframe I'd have to completely disassemble?
Apologies, it's been a few years since the rear clam has come off...

I've done a decent search but there doesn't seem to be full on guide on how to get this off.

You can leave it on, just the front lower wishbones mounts need to come off

Yes, rear engine mount, then the engine will sit happily on the remaining 3 (Although you have to temporarily remove the side mounts to access the upper subframe bolt..)

Yep, as above, but you don't need to re-bolt the side mounts back up, the engine will just sit on them (saves you removing the nut again)

Yes, you could just loosen the bolts and pull it back to expose the shims, do one side at a time, but you'll still need to release the front lower wishbone attachments. This method would allow you to retain the exhaust in position (just disconnect at the manifold to downpipe flange)

I've currently got the gearbox and engine off aswell as I will be fitting a 4.17 gearbox.
What is the best way to get it all back together?
Theres a lot of fannying with about with mounts if I install the engine first, then put the subframe on...
Does the engine and gearbox combined easily 'drop in' through with the subframe, or is that a pain in the arse aswell?

I lowered the engine with attached gearbox back In to the car, worked fine. (Std NA)

Then changed the clutch and flywheel then reinstalled the subframe with anti corrosion coating at interface....
