So i was back on the same road where i had the unfortunate incident with bits of debris on road (which ended up with written off tyre and holes in the underneath) today when another 'incident' occurred....

Driving along normally when suddenly the dash lights up like a Christmas tree : Airbag light, Engine warning light, ABS light and Battery light all come on together and the ABS light goes crazy blinking very fast in an erratic not designed to do that sort of way.

Car seems fine and after a few minutes the lights start to go out until all thats left on is the Engine warning light.

I pull over to stop  and start the engine to see if the Engine light remains lite and it does (and bump into another VX owner in the process - nice to meet you Chris - small world! :-) )

I drive home a but gingerly but engine seems to be running fine and no more lights appear.

Once home i check for stored codes and find these :

1. P0378
Powertrain: Timing Reference High Resolution Signal B Intermittent/Erratic Pulses

1. P0778
    No definition found.

Now the funny thing is these are the same from my post last year :

Checked the cable mentioned in the thread and its connected to the correct place still.

So are these left over from last year ? or is this a whole new problem ?

I cleared the codes and reset Engine warning light and cars starts fine without switching it on again - but will need another test drive tomorrow to see for sure.

Anyone seen this dashboard light thing before ? (with no other obvious symptoms )

Extensive testing today has shown the car seems fine - tried bumpy back roads and open fast roads where I could push the car hard and all fine - so will put this down to Christmas Gremlins/damp in a connector somewhere(car lives outside) until/if it re-occurs again,

Just to close out this post - this was caused by early stages of alternator failure. It eventually failed completely and has now been replaced. No issues since then
