195/40/17 Tyre?

Hi all, still trying to figure out tyres, I noticed Goodyear does the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 in 195/40/17 - is this acceptable for the factory VX220 front rims, assuming ABS will be disabled?  I'm aware this is quite low profile.  Many thanks!

I'm pretty sure we're talking standard fronts here so the federals don't come in that size. 

Sorry for confusion, I'm not looking for advice for which tyre to buy, but whether 195/40/17 is a good fit for OEM wheels, or should I stay with 195/45/17 for better handling?

40's are 3.3% smaller in diameter that 45. The sidewall is 11% lower.

 

The sidewalls will be stiffer sidewall and will have smaller rolling diameter. 

 

There's been a lot of chat before on tyre size option so I would have a search back for that

Yeah, I've used that calculator and have used Google Search - hundreds of threads about tyres and no general consensus of which size on front OEM rims - some advocate standard Bridgestones despite the price, some advocate 195/45s and a few mentions of 195/40s but no-one has agreed which is best.   So I'm still stumped!

Ah to hell with it, I'll go for the 195/45/17 ContiSportContact 5's.  Cheers all!

195/45/17 are difficult to install...
195/40/17 are impossible to install.

I have 195/45/17 NS-2Rs on the front and they took about 30 minutes per rim for the changeover. We were not exactly beating ourselves up to rush it, but we were using a tyre fitting machine, carefully.

In contrast we did the rears (factory size) in about 6-7 mins each, perhaps 12 including balancing.

I would not fancy my chances with 40 profiles unless I knew they had quite compliant sidewalls.

The factory Kelsey Hayes ABS does not seem bothered about the change.

achilles do 175/55/17R they are cheap too. as I live in New Zealand it was impossible to get bridgestone to supply.

the exchange rate, freight and duty made them very very expensive to import myself. achilles just though a couple in there next container.
