I have only ever seen two or three U bend hangers still attached, all the other cars never had one - either rusted off or not fitted
So the other hangers can support the exhaust sufficiently

My experience is that without that hanger near the ubend, the engine movement wiggles the backbox from the ubend.
With that hanger in place, it is better. When i had a smal weld tip on where the ubend meets the backbox it was perfect.
(I did not like the concept of paste between the ubend and the backbox)
After that, the stress went more to the downpipe flex part, so that cracked.
I can't seem to win this fight. (I only track the car though, so much more stress on the system)
