Car Wont Start

Need some help please guys.

2.2 NA has been sat on my drive for about 3 months. Batter was totally dead but managed to get it all charged back up.

It started up first time, but would not rev at all. Turned it off and on again and seemed fine. I drove it the 3 miles to my new house and parked outside the garage, as it was too dark to put it away.

So next morning I go out and try to start it. But now it wont start! 

The starter is spinning but its not even trying to fire. I also cannot hear the fuel pump priming. It also has two clicks, coming from the front somewhere which coincide with the engine management light flashing...

Any ideas guys?

flashing EML is usually immobiliser fault

it flashes two or three times the I turn the key, then just stays on constantly.

Does that still sound like the immobiliser? The clicks seem to come from near the front drivers side.

thats not a flashing eml, so some good news

Sounds like it has compression, but not firing. So either fuel or spark, possibly one of the relays in the boot (brown or grey), also check the fuses in the boot too

It could be an Immobiliser issue, I had this problem a few years ago after a flat battery on my old N/A, I had fuel pressure and spark but it wouldn't start. Try removing fuse 8 for an hour or two or disconnecting the battery for an hour or two this resets the ECU.

i just tried listening and i cant hear the fuel pump priming?

When you turn ignition on can you hear the pump prime and then stop?

immobiliser would be my bet.

op com is what you need

the grey relay is for the fuel pump

the brown relay is for the injectors and lambda sensors, plus it also provides power to the fuel cut off switch and thus the fuel pump

It's possible that the blown fuse was caused by a faulty fuel pump or faulty relay.

The brown relay is not interchangable with a grey relay

The grey relay has a single 'normally open' contact, whereas the brown relay has two 'normally open' linked contacts

Easiest way to check for a fuel pump issue is to use the fuel pressure relief valve on the fuel rail, there should be fuel pressure just after the ignition is switched ON (and ignition switched back OFF before testing)

I have finally got round to looking at this again...

I think the relays are ok, I switched the grey one with a front relay and still no joy, I hear it click when the ignition is on but no fuel pump noise, the car still just cranks.

When pressing the valve on the fuel rail I get no spray of fuel.

I looked at the eart point on the chassis, it looks pretty manky, but I suppose that is to be expected for a 19 year old car! That is my next port of call. Getting the wheel and arch liner off and giving it a good clean up.

If that is a no go Im guessing its either loom of doom or the fuel pump.... not sure which is giving me more fear!

Does anyone have any other ideas?
