Start Up After Sc Conversion - No Start

Hi everyone, 

I tried to start my car after mounting a SC yesterday. 

First it was no spark, and seems like it did not get petrol. 

After I found out that I connected one pin wrong on TB connector, it did start but was running extremely rich. 

After a while it died. Took out spark plugs and they we'r all black. Cleaned them and tried to start but no start, just a lot of petrol smell. 

Can it be that the injectors are wrong polarity ? 

I use dutch software, and do not get any error codes one the OBD tuner, but on a normal OBD reader I do get an error on the P0378 Timing reference high resolution. This is not possible to delete. 

i also get P 0778 pressure control solenoid B electrical and P0312 cylinder 12 misfire detected. 

Anyone have a clue ?

Yes, I checked all settings and wrote the files to the ECU once again.

Yes

ok so only 4 possibilities why it wont run.

1 no fuel - check at the fuel rail for the presence of fuel - crack the large nut off and see if it comes through at pressure with the ignition on.

2 no spark - check the spark by using a spark plug in the coil pack and earth it using a jumper lead from the thread of the plug to the engine metal parts.

3 No air - jam the throttle body slightly open with something (pen, allen key etc) but make sure it cant fall inside.

4 No compression - does the engine sound ok while cranking ?

See what you find.

1 no fuel - check at the fuel rail for the presence of fuel - crack the large nut off and see if it comes through at pressure with the ignition on.

It gives a lot of fuel. Too much probably and pressure is good. 

 

2 no spark - check the spark by using a spark plug in the coil pack and earth it using a jumper lead from the thread of the plug to the engine metal parts.

This can be an issue, maybe buy some new plugs ? 

 

3 No air - jam the throttle body slightly open with something (pen, allen key etc) but make sure it cant fall inside.

When it started throttle worked like it should. It also opens the TB maybe 20% when turning ignition on. 

 

4 No compression - does the engine sound ok while cranking ?

Yes.

I would wire brush the spark plugs or clean with some type of solvent and try again.

Also disconnect the ecu connectors and let everything power down for 10 minutes before your next attempt.

Thx, Ill go get some new plugs, and start again. 

And, when is actually the immobilizer turned off ? By blinking the flashlights several times or one long flash ? 

The alarm has nothing to do with the immobiliser.

The immobiliser works when you turn the key.

Ah one thing that occurs to me, have you earthed the engine ecu casing ? assuming you mounted it on the bulkhead ?

Yes, i put and earth cable on one of the screws ? 

Before we shoot random; some more details on you 2.2 SC build please;
Which sc & pulley, which injectors on what fuel rail, which throttle body + wiring? What MAP sensor? Any engine mods? Post your base ecu file?

Eaton M62 with. OEM pulley (3.1 ??) 

Bosch injectors 0 280 158 123

OEM fuel rail

LSJ 68mm TB with change wiring regarding Dutch diagram

No engine mods

That's the number of the 2.5 bar tmap sensor.

So besides regular injector wire extending, you rewired your TB, and you merged the wiring of your temp and map sensor into 1.

Both according to the obd tuner manual?

Your bosch number are for the EV14's, so you also converted your connectors from EV6 to EV1 format.

Yes i used the OBD manual, and tried to be very careful with one and one wire. 

I used EV1 connectors with pre-fitted wires and soldered them. I was a little unsure off polarity. 

Tried to start the car again yesterday, and it started but sounds like drowning and smell very unburned petrol from exhaust. 

I have an idea that this may be the case ?

Can you make an OBD log file?

1 log with only ignition on (to see correct MAP values; should be close to 100KPa atmospheric pressure)

1 log running engine (to see correct functioning of your O2 sensor and fuel trims)
