Alternator - What A Fun Job!

Bit of a PITA getting old one off and out and the new one in. Myself and my dear dad needed some teamwork to get it done.
Anywhere recommended to order new tensioner from?

Going to call Vauxhall in the morning. But given the prices of the non genuine I don't think I'm gonna like the answer!
INA branded seems to be the go atm.

One is currently being posted for delivery tomorrow.
The last one the supplier had. A lot less than £130.....£100 less...
It gave me comfort when ordered over the 'phone that the chap walked to confirm on the shelf before accepting my order.
Hopefully it will work just fine.

At the price paid, I suspect pattern part most definately not in a GM box.
However, I'd assume that GM used many suppliers and manufacturers over the lifecycle of the Z22SE engine, so will see what turns up.
From the document I have, the original GM part number was 24430296.
Eurocarparts plus 2 of my local motor factors all advised that they can get them within a workday.

Called Vauxhall. None in the country. Need to go in and pay first. At least 1 week delivery. £130 odd + VAT

Autovaux want £115 for the genuine tensioner
Pattern tensioners are around £50, some look identical to the genuine part, others not so

A decent pattern tensioner should last ok on a NA for a while.
The issue is more when you (inevitably) add a supercharger. Then the non-genuine tensioners don't seem to last long IME..

Hopeful that the tensioner and alternator will last for a good few thousand miles....as I (we!) really do not fancy changing them again...although the first time is always the most challenging...i.e. wheel arch liner appears never to have been off, so corroded fixings to contend with. The hex bolts (more tools required...) are now nicely lubricated too...
New Bosch battery picked up from CostCo last night too.
Hopefully all will be well again by close of today....

Getting the old battery out was incredibly easy - not!
Got to love these little cars....good job they are relatively simple.

I have got a new one to put back in, presumably there is a knack to holding it in place, whilst trying to put the bolts back in?

Phone a friend....my experience was that it required 2 folks to manipulate in/out and hold the alternator in place from below whilst the other got the bolts in.
Getting the new v belt on also required a few pairs of hands, including rotating the engine to get it properly onto the bottom pulley.
However, there are plenty on here who appear to have flown solo...hats off!
