So just trying to fathom out from some older posts, if I have my windscreen replaced will it come with a new surround?

My windscreen is in ok shape and blessed with a heated one, although a little electrical investigation is required to get it working properly, however my surround looks terrible and really lets the car down. Just considering replacing the whole shooting match but clearly I want a new surround as well as a windscreen.

Are there specialist suppliers for the windscreen in the VX?

You cannot (easily) remove the surround from the screen.
The electric screens are nonOEM screens.

If you get a new screen now, I don't think you can get one with a silver surround any more. I think only the Black Lotus style.

Ok thats really useful thank you, so if I was to contact Auto Glass they would provide a non-heated, black surround screen as a replacement?

The company/ies that used to make the heated ones, no longer provide them I take it?

Nope, heated ones remain available through Ricky Evans, but do not include the encapsulation, hence the need to remove the original

Seems a lot of expense and effort for something that is purely cosmetic. Can’t you just sand back and vinyl wrap or paint what you have?

When you say it looks terrible, in what sense?

is it damaged?

if its not damaged, then just fulldip (or use shitty plastidip) it to the colour you want with minimal effort etc.

Ah right ok so does anyone sell the surround? Sounds like it might be better to forego the heated aspect and get a non-heated one with black surround from Auto Glass or similar?

Difficult to fully capture it on camera, a mate suggested repainting matt as he reckoned you wouldn't see the lumps/imperfections, but as you can see its also cracking.

That's not OEM finish.
Looks like it's already been painted (badly) as well as damaged during removal and refitting to the electric screen.

Looks like a really bad put it on thick paint job
Might be worth sanding it back with some 800 wet and dry get all the old paint off see if it can just be painted again or as mentioned above sand it down and wrap it

So the story is here -

http://www.vx220.org...creens-chipped/

It never reached a conclusion on the thread however I do have an invoice from Sinclaire Motorsport for the fitting of the screen so assume they did it in the end.

Will take it to my paint man and see what he thinks, the windscreen itself is perfect, not a chip in sight but hate the surround finish.
