Track Rod End Threads.

I need to adjust my front track rod ends and inevitably both are solid on their threads.  Before I muller anything would somebody please tell me if they are both RH threads or is one LH, in which case which one.  Have searched but cannot find the answer.  Thanks in advance.  

Right hand thread, both unscrew towards the chassis.

Just changed both of ours. As John says, both normal right hand thread. The locking nuts on both of ours had become fixed solid to the rods. I managed to screw the ends off, by turning them away from the lock nuts, and then remove the locking nuts by cutting through them with a Dremel disc. I cleaned up the threads on the rods and covered the reassembled joints with a thin layer of grease.

Word of warning - Try to be as gentle as possible with it, no banging around as you may find you damage the inner joint.  That's a real PITA!!

Hint taken, thanks!  At the moment I'm dosing them with plus gas which I've used very successfully for half a century, another day or two should do it but we'll see!

Stilsons are good to persuade too.

BTW.. If you mangle the nuts and need new ones, be aware that it's a fine metric thread on the track rods so common nuts won't thread on.

 

Localised heat usually is your friend in these conditions to help break things loose. If you can borrow an inductive heater then that's a very good solution to get a blast of concentrated heat into the nut and threaded section without needing to worry about setting fire to anything else

That's good info, thank you.  Have just tried again with an 18" adjustable and nothing giving yet.  Patience, patience!

So there we go, no heat, no violence, no skinned knuckles, just patience and Plusgas!  LH trackrod nut came free last evening and the RH this evening.  Thank you all for your good advice and thoughts generously given as always!  

I never saw the value of plusgas etc until doing my suspension refresh... It really does work... And blummin well

Thanks Chris, the originals are fine in fact, no wear or slop.  I just took the wheels off to get new tyres fitted and saw that the old tyres were more worn on the inside so will apply a half turn of toe in before refitting the wheels.
