Evening!

So I believe Iâ€™ve blown my MAF by using a K&N air cone filter, Iâ€™ve read on previous posts that the oil in them can ruin a MAF!

So my next question is, Iâ€™ve ordered a new MAF and I donâ€™t want to ruin that one, so which air filter is a best for a modified VXT?

Off shelf:

Best filtration for a standard car = standard air box / paper filter.

Makes a nice noise and doesn't kill MAFs and said to have good filtration but probably doesn't have the best flow = Apexi

Best filtration & flow Dave H utilising modified OE air box / paper filter

Itâ€™s not standard, this is why Iâ€™m getting a bit confused, I currently have the line filter straight into my MAF. The MAF is an upgraded 80mm one already

I still have the huge K&N cone filter set up on mine and it's been fine for many years. I also still have a working original MAF.

I believe a lot of the 'Oiled filters will kill your MAF' stems from when some people service the filters. If they are over oiled, or in the case of the panel filters, oiled from the wrong side, then some of this oil will obviously end up coating the hot wire in the MAF and slowly kill it off.

Trouble with oiled filters is its so easy to over or under oil its such a hard to define level and a vague area. Each time I do my daughters ITG its always a pain.

Is there not a filter system other than standard that doesn't need oiling?

I got Apexi, sounds amazing and is dry so wont mess anything up.Had mine on for 5 years plus also got one on my MX5 turbo too

Always come out on top with various tests, just make sure you buy a genuine one, not ebay fakes

Yes its this. Oiled filters are fine if you do it right and follow the instructions. I used the same K&N filter on my Celica GT4 for 4 years without a single problem cleaned it regularly and by the time I sold the car it still looked immaculate. Always oil the correct side as instructed and all works no problem.
