Reverse Gear Problem

I have an 03 VXT with 60k. Gear box works fine except it needs a good slam to get into reverse and sometimes isn’t quite in although it feels like it is.
Would getting a new set of cables such as the £188 set from the Elies shop help sort this? I’m no expert but is it possible the cables have stretched over time so it’s not quite making a positive selection in the gear box? It says they are adjustable so again could these be adjusted to help get that reverse gear engaged first time?
I got a VX garage to look and they said it’s all ok and just a quirk. Maybe done thinner racing fluid at next service but I’d rather fix it that look a dick when I go to reverse in a parking space
Thanks in advance
Chris

The gear stick goes into reverse no problem but now and then it just doesn’t quite engage to gear and it grinds. When it does I move the stick to neutral and try again then it’s normally ok.
I try giving it a good shove into reverse but doesn’t really make a difference.
I was just thinking if it’s all controlled by cables, if they are old and stretched a touch could this be the reason it’s not quite getting the reverse in? Or would the cables have nothing to do with this?

Have someone put it in reverse from the gear stick. Check at the gearbox side if you can help the linkage movement and "go further" than what the cables allow...

I'd upgrade your gear selector bush with one of these.

might just need the free play removing to give full throw in reverse gear.

Probably unlikely in your case if it's a new problem etc.

I’ll get a Bush it’s well worth a try!
Also, I should have said, it’s not new. The previous owner passed on the ‘quirk’ but I want to fix it rather than live with it.
I think I need to get it in for someone to look at. Does anyone know a decent place to investigate in the south? I’m near Fareham. Cheers

Ah, then on that basis i'd definetly be looking at the selectors.
The selectors should be shaped as on the image below, mine had somehow been bent out of shape..
Took off and clamped in a vice and sorted.
You 'may' just about be able to see them looking throuigh the boot with the clam on..
