Sticky Shifter

Hi, I might have some problems with my shifter. Somehow it wheels kinda sticky, in a way that the stick is not centering itself very quickly. This makes changing from 2nd to 3rd gear a bit hard since the shifter is going to 1st instead of the 3rd because it is not "pulling" itself to center. My car has a gated shifter surround if it has something to do with the problem.  Is there some springs or something that would require some lubrication or is it from the bushing near gearbox?

I had exactly the same symptoms and needed a gearbox refurbishment.

How many kilometers did your car have? Mine has only 24000km so I find it hard to believe that the gearbox would be worn out.

A lot!  Daily driver at the time, probably 80,000 miles plus.

My OEM cables melted after the first track day with my supercharger. 

I can´t say it "sticked", it was more of needing more force to move it. And it got better when warmed up. 

New cables with more heat protection fixed mine. 

Mine also gets better when warmed up, I doubt the car has had a lot track experience and it is relatively stock. I think I try to lubricate it first but maybe I will change the cables during winter. Is it easy to fit a short shifter at the same time?

   Definitely worth fitting the short shifter once you have sorted the cables I would say. If you get a decent short shifter kit, it should come with a new nylon bush for the gearbox end of the selector. Not a fun job to fit though. You will need some special skills to get the pin out of the original gearbox selector turret. I removed the whole thing from the gearbox to do it in the end.
