Removing Rear Number Plate

Does anyone have any experience or tips for removing the rear number plate?

 

I was planning to slip a wire behind to try and cut through whatever adhesive/tape there is. I don't mind damaging the plate but don't want to pull away the paintwork.

I had to remove the plates from my other car and I used dental floss, taking it easy and gradually worked my way along.  The plate were held on by double sided sticky tape, the kind with the thin foam inner.  The dental floss cut trhough the foam.

Thin guitar string will do the trick, plus a little bit of heat.

Before attempting the above, I once used fishing line,I would warm the number plate with a hairdryer.

Thanks for all the advice, particularly the need to heat the plate.

Why are you removing the plate?

I've had an advisory on the rear plate delaminating for the last three or four tests, but it's the kind of thing you leave until you have a lot of spare time on your hands....

I removed mine recently, mainly because the letters had been doctored by the last owner; it was a matter of time until I got pulled.
