Cadwell And Snetterton Track Days After Aquamist Install On Stage 2

Just thought I would post a couple of short vids from 2 recent track days at Cadwell and Snetterton.

 

I had recently installed an aquamist system on my standard "stage 2" car so it was a bit of test outing for that. Interestingly you can see the inlet temps never go above 40 degrees which is a massive step forward from the 60+ I used to see from long track sessions even in single digit temps..... The temperature gauge also stays very low so its clearly working well. 

 

Peter installed me a plug and play map so I haven't done any mapping or fine tuning yet but it all performed faultlessly and simply turning off the system reverts me back to my standard map. I particularly enjoyed the new rev limit on the pro version of the software which no longer has a very hard cut like the previous version I was running.

 

The only downside was the amount of deionised water it gets through which is around 2.5 liters a session on the dual 0.5 mm jets I'm running so you need to carry quite a bit of water with you!!!

 

For me though the benefits hugely outweigh the cons and I should have a much healthier engine fingers crossed as well.

 

For anyone interested vids are below, I was pleased with a PB of 2.10 at Snetterton especially given the zzr's were well passed there best. My ambition was to get into the 9's or lower but that should come with new tires and better driving

E, that’s an excellent result. My temps rise significantly after 10 mins on track but I’m done with tampering with my VX anymore.

I love Cadwell, it’s been 10 years since I’ve been there and I must do it again!

Watched your Snetterton vids before I went 5 years ago but still impressive today! When all this COV19 blows over lets organise a group Snetterton session on a quiet week day

I’ll definitely be up for that. let’s hope some of the usual track warriors will also come along and make it a VX/Caterham/MX5/Lotus blast.

Have you tried turning down the amount of water and what rpm it comes in to reduce usage? Keep monitoring inlet temps and see how much you can trim off before it starts rising too much.

Peter did send me a map where the FAV opened 75% but that's definitely something I will work on mate .I think the car feels better with at 100% though and the trouble is we are at WOT so much that the usage is still quite high!

there’s nothing wrong with your apex speeds either. I ran your clip side by side with mine and apart from straight line speed due to my additional HP, you are easily as quick through the corners.

You need to try my car out and I’d like to try yours just to see what BOT has done on your setup.

Jez has said I should try his setup. I need a slightly softer front end.

I must admit with my setup 450 front 650 rear NTR 46’s Randy spec if I run the ARB in anything but full soft I get a lot of understeer.... I had it in the middle setting at Oulton Park when the tires were better and it was okay but still too understeery. At Cadwell I went off the circuit 

as the car stays set in one direction mid corner and there’s not enough front end grip to tighten the line and I don’t like that.

 

As soon as I moved it too full soft I was a lot quicker everywhere and could adjust the car. As I still drive to the circuit still I’m quite happy with this softer setup as it seems to work okay. However I will go NTR 40 mm club sports at some stage.

 

if you go up on the springs it makes sense to go up on the bar and I think you and Mark are running stiffer setups which look very rapid. So there are definitely 2 ways to set these cars up in my mind.

 

Its all preference... but would love to try your car as well

I’m finding that I have to control my car’s understeer by modulating the accelerator mid slow to
Medium corners. it’s frustrating. The problem gets worse once tyres are hot.

I run hard tyres on the rear and medium on the fronts. My 1” arb is on medium. On full soft it grips better in turn in, but can suddenly lose traction mid corner at its limit. I find it trickier and, where I can make up time is on fast corners leading onto a straight, I’m slower.

I had Randy spec Nitron 40’s then 46’s. I didn’t like them. The 40’s were definitely better though. I’m more than happy with my Quantum Zero’s now.

Also, my height is virtually standard factory heights, perhaps 10mm lower. I really don’t mind a twitchy car through the corners if it’s controllable, but as you know, you must react quickly with the wheel to correct. Once you feel happy doing so, it’s comfortable.

Yes ditto I don't enjoy driving the car when its like this and you're right its slow to medium corners its affects the most....

Guessing you're on the pro software?

I'm not sure how that differs as I run mine with standard software and all controlling is done inside the little control box.

2 of the dials, Thres dictates when it kicks in, and gain dictates how it ramps up in comparison to fuel flow once it has kicked in.

Yes mate I’m on pro so I have the fail safe setup and 2 maps my normal map and the WI map which is leaner and has more ignition advance. Peter has done it all for me.

 

You can still use the dials if you want to but obviously in pro you have the WI table where you can program everything super accurately I just need to spend a bit more time on this  to optimise the water useage.

 

im going to do a power run at some stage and see if we can run a bit more power  although it’s probably close to the limit.

 

The engine feels a lot more alive with the Ignition advance which is a nice bonus as well!
