I took my alarm siren off many years ago as it kept going off when the battery was low, which is weekly in a VX. The alarm is still active tho, and the hazards go on still when it’s active. Is there any way to remove/stop the alarm all together?

Not sure if it's on it's own fuse but you could try that, if so. Alternatively, the nuclear option is presumably disconnecting the alarm brain inside the dash void altogether. Either of those would be easily reversible if it introduced any problems of it's own with the lights (i.e. it might mean the hazards/indicators don't work at all).

you can remove the control unit by the stereo without problems

That's good to know. Is the alarm completely stand-alone? I assume it doesn't interact with the immobiliser which I believe is in the ECU?
