New Suspension For Vxt - Suggestions Welcome

I want to replace the standard Bilstein suspension on my 2005 VX Turbo for some newer fresher units.

The car has only done 35k miles but is almost 15 years old so I'm sure some newer suspension will improve things.

It is a second car and will be driven mostly on dry roads in summer, and hope to do some track days over the next few years. I'm not planning on chasing any records so I don't want super hard race suspension but somthing that is good quality and suitable for road and occasional track use would be ideal.


I have seen a set of used AST units for sale in Germany - they seem to get a good write up but I cant see any owners from the UK with them.


I have also seen that a set of new Gaz Monotubes are £980 and new Nitron Street Series for £882. They both come with a warranty etc so may be a better option if nothing comes up.

If you keep a lookout on SELOC you may be able to get a set of secondhand exige billies and if haven't replaced your bushes and ball joints yet it's definitely worth doing.

I've got a set of uprated toe links and uprated hub carrier bolts to fit as well. I'll give the bushes and ball joints a look over when they are being fitted.

I had a look at their website. They quote 100+vat per unit for a refurb. At £500 to reshesh the 4 standard shocks I wondered if it was worth spending more to get upgraded items.

If U want a like for like just referb yours

Yes, I like the idea of a proper geometry set up to maximise the handling potential.

I also plan to change to a 16 inch front wheel set up so the ability to alter ride height would be preferable. I dont wish to lower the car unnecessary, just make the most of the chassis and improve the handling.

i do Nitron and Gaz shocks at a decent price.. 

the gaz monos are a really good track & road shock for £1000 or the nitron street series is not bad prices too.

I suppose the 'upgrade' will depend on what you want. I was going to suggest some Lotus-spec Bilsteins, and the Exige set are my favourite for the road.. They're just a slightly improved version of your originals, and can be used with your original springs (Exige springs are slightly stiffer) if desired. Plus you shouldn't need a Geo set up switching over.

 

If you plan on doing the occasional track thing, then Nitron SS or dampers in a similar price point (Gaz Mono, Quantum Zero) might be worth the extra spend + set-up
