Many Machinists On Here?

I'm just wanting to pick some brains for knowledge.

 

I have a load of slitting saws for the mill and I bought one of those telescopic / universal arbors where the sleeves are sprung.  It's an absolute bugger to centre the saw blades on this!  Is there a trick to it or is it a case of bin the universal arbor as a one size fits none and buy individual ones?

I've never has sucess with the expanding arbors on any type of machine. I have seen it done by an old technician, but he passed away a few years ago, so I can't ask him. If it was for a high-value piece and I was desperate i'd probably make up a little collar jig to centre it, but otherwise i'd buy the right size.
