Ah so finally took the materials into work and was that easy I do I did it in my lunch break Needless to say the drive home was peaceful and I use a bumpy country road.

Just did this to cure a rattle in the passenger door, clearly hadn't realise how much teeth gritting I had been doing driving the car before over even small bumps because now it is beautifully quiet and I only did the rear guide. What a great mod. :D

2 hours later and I'm back to square one, possibly even worse than before.

My windows have lots of wobble in them but the gap this mod fits the plastic and the sticky foam is too thick. No problem, took the foam off and then just used double sided sticky tape which was the right thickness. However no chance of it going through the rail guides. Gave up after I had to take the rail out to fix it all just to get back to what I had.

Looks like I'll have to live with the awful windows still :(

This is a mod that's pretty hard to cock up. Where did you get the conduit from? Homebase stuff worked a treat

Yep homebase as per this thread. It just physically wouldn't fit. Taking the foam adhesive off and using double sided tape was much better fit but still was proving problematic.

Need to reread this thread and have a closer look at it I think.

Had the same problem doing Hainesy's pax window. The rattle just wasn't bad enough to get the conduit down the gap. Guess you just have to wait until it gets worse before you can make it better.

Ok managed to force the trunking down the rear rails and it's helped massively with the movement in the windows. Passenger one had to be done with runner out but drivers side was much easier and was done with runner left in situ. The adjustment of the windows was more of a ball ache as the front/rear tilt doesn't seem to do much and both front in/out tilt adjusters are rusted solid so will have to look at getting some wurth on them over the next week and see how that goes.

Overall easier than most jobs, especially if you can do it with runners left in place.

Thanks to everyone for all this good info!
Just in case it helps anyone here is an alternative approach for your consideration!
On my drivers window the top slider is the one that's worn. And the wear is on the outer finger so inserting a piece of plastic as above would solve the rattle but move the glass away from the body.
So what I did-
Removed the plastic bung on the inner door.
Made up a piece of plastic as per the picture. I used a piece of trunking capping. It's 30 mm overall with the gap between the two upstands 25mm. The width is about 20mm.
Then using a pice of old copper pipe I inserted the piece of plastic, already buttered with adhesive, and slid it between the runner and the worn plastic slider. The two upstands locate the plastic in place.
Leave to dry. I used araldite, so 24 hours to be sure.
Possible advantages of this approach - no need to remove the door cards or rubber waist seal. Glass remains aligned correctly.
Disadvantages - u may find inserting the piece of plastic tedious!
But has sorted my rattle out.
Kind Regards
Paul
Sorry, system won't allow me to attach the picture of the plastic insert and the tool I used to fit it. Only allowed 500k file size. If the repair is of any interest to anyone, by all means contact me and I'll send u the picture.
