cheeky fecker I spotted a silver vxT for sale at Buckingham on my travels today, the last vx I spotted whilst driving mine was a mandarin whose driver never even recognised me

Also worth adding is for a given load, what are the losses of the alternator? i.e. Does the 45A running at 40A take more or less torque than the 55A one at the same load? Is this parasitic loss greater than the effect of the greater mass?

well I bought a 60Amp in the end

Plus I finally got chance to use the USA L61 alloy alternator pulley which I bought many years ago, it was too short for the z22se alternator but perfect for the Denso

just over 3Kg and so small it's easily held in one hand I'm going to mount it to the engine as low as possible too

Alternator mounting bracket has been machined which allowed the Denso alternator to be mounted onto my spare engine, bought a 5PK750 drivebelt and just need to make the adjuster. Then it will be time to fit it to my vx

How much weight did you save? - new alternator weighs just 3Kg
How much did it cost? - all brand new parts = £130
Where did you buy it? - all from ebay

Is it only for weight reduction or are there other benefits? - Weight reduction was the main reason [lighter alternator, belt tensioner removed, shorter belt]. Plus I wanted the alternator mounted lower on the engine and of course the fun of fitting it

I also saved more weight because I had to make a new trigger wheel bracket, due to the new belt position, which I made from alloy plate. I know it doesn't sound like much but when you compared the two brackets there was a huge difference in weight

standard alternator weighs 6Kg

I weighed everything removed = 9Kg * and everything going back on = 4Kg **, total weight saving = 5 Kg

*That includes the z22se alternator, tensioner, belt, bolts and standard crank pulley
**That includes the Denso alternator, bracket, belt, bolts and underdrive crank pulley

Just finished fitting it, just the wiring to do, also had to make a new dipstick bracket

Looks great! By the way, you forgot to bolt up the battery terminal Did the ITB cable attachment come with the ITBs? Looks completely different to the thing I have... It comes off at a much better angle.

I knew someone would pick that up

I've ordered the denso plug for the wiring loom, so it's not finished yet

I have an early set of Webcon Throttle bodies so it has the stronger motorsport linkage

ps: I'm surprised nobody has asked how I took a picture of my engine from the drivers seat

Have you just removed the whole front end of the car to save weight? It's not like you use it much anyway

I hadn't thought of that I have a removable alloy bulkhead these days, makes access so much easier

And before anyone notices .... the drivebelt was a 6PK750 from a VW Polo 1.3 which I trimmed down to create a 5PK750
