I agree with the membership option but as a member who is not a national participant I think it unfair if any extra surplus cash funds that it would surely be better to calculate the following years subscription for existing members based on how much is in the kitty

Bob, i really think we need to do this in stages.
First get the forum working properly, with payment and premium membership.
We've parked a couple of other ideas to not try and do too much in one go.
We will get round to discounts and offers. In the meantime, please feel free to speak to as many people as you like about discounts.

Can we do a one off payment for lifetime membership like LoT did? (do?) £30 for life IIRC.
Are ads really related to my interests? I'm not convinced!

We can't do lifetime membership. Ads are google ads which are based on your browsing history (or so they state).
Once things have settled down, we'll be targetting proper advertisers for the positions, which are related to the information within the forum.
