Just remember try not to let the heart rule the head :) Let us know what you decide :)

Really, I mean really... How many mods have been head not heart decisions? Sorry if I seem to keep picking on you recently, but there is a remarkable irony in these posts. Not that I have any right to comment.
Irony??

Judged on a loyal relationship with your relative - snap it up for 6k. If you need to spend 2k after its not much loss if any.

£10k seems overpriced as it looks like it's had a hard 12,000 miles!

that looks like it's had quite a hard life if it's only done 12k

Too slow Vockmeister.   ;)

No one listens to you :P

good excuse response

for £6k you will be getting what looks like a decent enough vx220, it will need some love, but you will still have change from the £4k you save by buying direct from the owner  thumbsup

With the interior mods, it at least shows that someone has spent some time looking after/improving which must be a good thing. If I were you, I would have a really good look with a forum member or at least someone with a bit of knowledge of theses cars.

Either way, £6k does look like a reasonable price. No way is it EVER worth £10K!

Lack of history is always a concern when buying a car. If nothing else, it will give you a problem if you ever decide to sell up.

I think pretty much every owner ends up spending some money once an owner so budget for this. Knock him down to £5.5k :)

Make sure if you do buy it to give a # full service as the brake fluid looks decidedly black. It does quickly turn in a VX, but the colour of that means that it hasn't been changed for at least 2yrs (probably since new - as some places see the 'lifetime' note on thr system and don't do it as part of the service). If it was me I woild consider this as a bare minimum on initial purchase: New discs and pads all round (£300) Track Control Arms (£170) Track Rod Ends (£40) #Oil Change (+ another after 500miles) #Brake Fluid Change #Oil Filter #Coolant Change # Full set of plugs New Tyres all round (£600-£700) Then have these in mind, as it may need these in the near future: New bushes and balljoints (£500-£800) Engine Mounts (£70) Rear Caliper Service/Replacement (£100) Handbrake Cable (£30) All that could be done in one hit immediately after purchase for less than £2k and the car should have set you back less than £8k in total and should be problem free for a good while.

And contrary to popular opinion, that 8k wouldn't be an outlandish price for the package described above.

The factory stickers on the drivers side sill are missing, the mudguards are from a turbo (they stopped selling NA ones at some point, and you can only buy the turbo ones now) and the rear locking mechanism shiny part should be under the clam, not on it.

So it's seems to have had a rear/side misfurtune.

Does not have to be a bad thing,  (70% of these cars has had resprays) but PLEASE bring along someone from the forum who knows these cars for a proper check of the suspension part. (that's the part that sensitive on impact, and can cause some very expensive bills to get right)

Thanks for all the comments...

So buying a VX220 is not as straight forward as I first thought! looks like everyone thinks i would definitely benefit from a FORUM members presence, any body in the Kidderminster or west midlands area fancy having a look with me and potentially stop me from buying a shed or hopefully help me buy my first VX220 :)

If you can't find a member to go with you, is there any garages nearby that know vx's? Just an idea but could maybe be worth seeing if they would come out to have a look with you?

Don't go on your own. I did, but lucked in massively as there was nothing outwardly wrong with the car. Don't be the one that comes on looking for advice on new wishbones, subframes etc. because the car was knocked. Can anyone help him out?

003647 isn't showing (as far as I can see) against anyone on here in the Build numbers list:

What did the MoT history show for Mileage in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013?

I'm  not far away but you could do with someone who knows a bit more about what to look for tbh.  I think I know where to look and could take some photos, but I wouldn't want you to buy it on my say so.  There's a few folks around here that know alot more than me though, hopefully one of them might chime in.
