I love the look of the vx but feel it is let down by the fact that its only got a 4 pot.

I've been doing some thinking and quite a bit of searching and come up with alot of mentions regarding the idea of fitting the Z28net from an insignia vxr but nothing in depth. I've read that it supposedly fits to the original f23 gearbox and can use the vx running gear.

Does this mean that you dont have to source new/ custom drive shafts? and with it being a gm engine would it make it easier to fit as apposed to an Audi for example?

Obviously i am aware that it will require the z28 ecu wiring in and mounts made up for it to fit correctly.

This project will by no means be starting now, but it is something that i will be seriously considering as apposed to going down the harrop route and thought i might aswell start gathering imformation on what i will need and maybe then start looking into getting the parts ordered.

Any info anyone can give would be great, also dont mind being a guinepig (<< spelling?) to find an alternative engine conversion.

Cheers

Al

Yes, if the gearbox is the same then driveshafts will be the same.

Key point will be clearance of the subframe and positioning of mounts. Answer those two questions and you'll be in a good position to start

I don't see how the brand of engine makes it easier to fit. The fact that there's already an Audi engined VX', as well as all the designs for the exhaust, engine mounts and so on will make it cheaper than trying to do it again for a different engine.

It is a four pot, but is a V6 really worth doing? A V6 isn't any more of a supercar than an L4. The power increase isn't great and frankly the fact that fewer are sold means there's less tuning companies producing parts for them.

The way I see it is this, you either go all out and fit the engine you want (V8, V10 ect) with the associated subframe redesign and new bodywork (as per this: http://rejsa.nu/foru...pic.php?t=74693) or you look at extracting the maximum power/£ from an engine that fits. Anything in between will still have significant costs but won't fully deliver the supercar experience.

the reason i was thinking of a v6 was mainly for the noise.

i've read the thread about about the elise v10 project. which mainly got me thinking. my main aim was trying to find something that wouldn't require extensive modifications to the subframe, be easily attainable and sound nice.

Excellent thanks. Have you researched into this anymore?noticed most of what I was reading had been posted by you  As mentioned earlier it won't happen anytime soon if ever, due to easier ways to get more power and it will end up being a lot of money just for the soundtrack.

The s3 spec 4 pot, had rs4 v8 lump in back but needs a chunk of work, tfsi lump makes more sense other than noise The 3.0 v6 sc tfsi lump was my next quest as 450bhp easy and sounds almost v8 but parked these plans Having done a clutch on vectra vxr I can confirm not light ;) DG

Think the easiest option for a V6 might be the Toyota one, as used in Evora and Elise/Exige. Just take that subframe, engine, gearbox etc. and you'll have 450 horses. Probably yo need to extend the body a bit to cover it all.

rs4 v8 lump

That (or possibly the M3's V8) the only engine that I'd ever want to go through the pain and bollocksing up the balance of the car for. High revving NA and not a turdo in sight for over 400bhp.

i wouldn't of thought it would change the handling of the car that much. its only slightly heavier than a turbo's engine so surely would handle similar to a VXT?...
