How To Mount The Waist Part Of The 4-Point Harness? (Snap On)

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount the waist part of my 4-point harness (snap on). There's no space between the seat and the center console to mount an eye bolt in the floor, but it looks like I can fit the eye bolt through the plate between the seat and the enginge - but is the plate strong enough?

I'm also considering using the schroth brackets (http://www.msar.co.u...Bracket_88.html) and using either the original seat belt mounting bolts or using the rearbolts holding the seat to the rails (same here, are they strong enough? I doubt it) - bolts #2: http://www.speedster...e), Replace.pdf

Any other suggestions?

Yep, completely agree with AM. Mine are also mounted on the seatbelt mounts in the seat. I use the regular seatbelts for road use (I think harnesses are dangerous for road use) and the harnesses for the track.

For road use, I push the shoulder straps back through the holes in the seat and tie them onto the harness bar to stop them moving around. The waist straps normally lie along either side of the seat, but if I know I won't be on track for a while I just remove them.

Definitely don't drill through the plate behind the seats, the fuel tank is directly behind that.

you should have got the spacer with the harnesses, well i did. No other bits were required to fit to the existing SB mount.

You dont need the spacer

It turns out my seat rail is mounted using the holes closest to the center console, that's why I have no space there

That's normal. On the photo they moved the central divider over a little or you need to mod the cover and handbrake mounting frame a little, but if you don't to that then with the the regular seats/runners (not fixed motorsport seats on fixed frames) often the inboard eye bolt is then fitted on the 'inside' of the rail/mount and not outside.

Usually not a big issue and still acceptable mounting point.

The key point is that the eye bolts are fitted to the lower chassis beam which is a strong part of the car. Just be careful with the bottom as it's an 'U' profile so the bottom sheet of the car can be crushed in unless you use a spacer tube like the Lotus Motorsport plates have so the bolt tightens on the chassis beam and not the skin.
