They make that look pretty easy on an astra, is access much harder on a vx?

Access is actually not too bad on the vx with the wheel arch and top engine mount removed.

I'm trying for two days now to get the tensioner to actually make some tension... It is impossible to get it to the "new belt" mark... Any clues? (Yes, I have done it counter-clockwise, but even clockwise wont do jack sh..)

Water pump in the correct position? Are you sure you are letting the tensioner fully out?

Make sure you don't push the allen key through into the blue plastic part. If you have pushed allen key in so far that it locates itself and lock into the blue ring it won't tension the belt.

belt goes round bottom crank , then tensioner , then water pump, up past rollers , over cams, then back down

Tryed all ways possible with the belt, i've read some things on the Internet about the waterpump that is "moveable" so I guess that is the thing then... Exactly the same belt that came off is going on. And the tensioner went all the way out, since after u turn it some more it retracts it selves again ;)

sounds like water pump not located correctly, the lug on the casting should point to the about 11 o'clock, to a bump on the cambelt cover and block

It was the waterpump that was out, thought the pulley was centered. My guide that I used (the PDF one) did not state this haha! Now all well and on the "new belt" mark... Just waiting for my new spark plugs, my new coil so I can start the damn thing back up ;) Thanks lads! (By the way, the cut out is a bit different on my/our block than what the picture showed, but I realised this was of great importance to make the tensioner work haha :happy: )

I cant see anywhere this question has been asked. There is 2 cambelt kits listed one is for pre 2003 (93174265) which has the earlier 2 nylon tensioners and the other one later post 2004 (93185844) which has 1 metal tensioner & 1 nylon . Although mine is a 2004 model Autovaux said I had the earlier kit. I wanted to ask could I put the later kit on consisting of the 1 metal & 1 nylon?

Can the water pump be changeed when doing the belt without removing the rear clam.  Building myself up to do this as the belt has not been changed since new!
