Hiya,
got a hardtop for the first time and after doing the searches on the forum found out that the rear brackets changed from metal to plastic.

However, I think I have the old style brackets but in plastic, not metal? The driver's side seems to just about fit but the passenger side is very loose.

So before I order new brackets can I just confirm these are the old style ones (although plastic versions).

Second question.
The windows need adjusting by about 1mm to make them a tight seal. After looking at other posts I think this is the thing I need to adjust (in red circle. But I again before I do can some just confirm and hold my hand.

To adjust the window, yes you need to loosen the part you have circled. To do this get a spanner behind the circular piece (you will need to break the plastic sheeting to do this). Then whilst holding the circular piece with mole-grips or similar loosen the nut it is attached to this. You will be able to swivel the circular metal piece around, allowing the window to be wound up further, one the correct position is found tighten the bolt that you loosened and there you go, a newly adjusted window.

Sorry can't help with the first question.

Brill thumbsup thanks for the advice rdjmoose, I feel much more confident B) about "having a go" now.

With the old brackets I didn't think there was the thin slit on the underside for the hardtop attachment thingy to sit in. Have a look at the base of the bracket, you might understand what I'm waffling on about then! HTH thumbsup

Nick,

What is the build number of your VX?(last part of the number on the driver's door jam). Those brackets look identical to mine (I'm build number 4308 and mine are also plastic) and although it may be hard to find there should be a small slit on the underside into which the hardtop fixing fits. Take a small screwdriver and gently probe around the underside of the bracket - you should find it OK. I took a small amount of old bicycle inner tube and cut strips to match the shape of the metal lugs on the brackets on the rear of the hardtop. They acts as guards to protect the paint finish and enable you to tighten the fixings down securely without risking damage to the brackets.

Here you go!

My VX dealer supplied new brackets with my VX hardtop. Photo below shows RH new one fitted and old one in my hand for comparison.

The part nos. appear to be

Right - 9197327 CANTR

and Left - 9197328 CANTR

The difference is the larger lug at the bottom of the bracket for the clamp to fit under.

This was 2001 so don't know whether they are still available.
