I'm guessing you will totally lose the boot space and it wont fit with the after market exhausts on the market ATM though?

Hi jules. Yup, your right, some of the boot would have to go ok. I rarely use it though. I just have to make sure I keep enough space for the gf's weekend bag, insuring I don't melt whatever she has in it :) Imagine all those hair spray canisters exploding!

That intercooler would be about as much use as a chocloate fire guard in that position, if it would fit at all. Wonder where they take the oil feed from for the turbo bearings? I can't see where the braided s/steel hose goes.

Full details of the kit HERE

I'd ebay that intercooler and use the TMS air-water intercooler with a standard tubby intercooler.

Somewhere off the block, from the install manual

Install the oil supply line – the 120° hose end
connects to the engine block, the 90° hose end
connects to the turbo. Use the supplied Adel clamp
to secure the oil supply line to the actuator Adel
clamp

mandarinvx, I guess its the fixings which are configured for the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt.

The feed to the compressor would have to be reconfigured too... dropped down to clear the clam..

no no, the compressor feed on the right of the turbo.... that's the large black pipe. But the exhaust would have to be custom fitted ok... thumbsup

Sorry mate, my bad.

I was assuming that you wer referring to the outlet pipe over the top of the rocker cover, which obviously wouldn't fit with the standard bootlid. :beat:

Inlet pipe would be easy to sort as it could be routed straight to the NA side vent for our fitment. thumbsup

The GT Tuner Kit with the intercooler has a list price on www.turbobygarrett.com of 1,644.28 GBP. I find that very tempting.

Hmm the more I look at this kit the less it seems to appeal, 198 bhp isn't much for the outlay or is that beacuse there's no mention of ECU up grade or extra fueling? As for which kit I reckon you'd have to junk the majority of the conection pipes in the third kit just to fit it in the VX. From what I know of your plans speedster I recon the most important part of this kit is that there's a ready made manifold that fits between a Garrett Turbo flange and the ecotec manifold as this would be one of the hardest components to source yourself, other than that most of the other fittings could be sourced elsewhere The GT2860RS speced does look a bit small for the power requirments you've talked about elsewhere, but I've not converted it into SI units yet so i could be wrong.

the instructions state you need to send the ecu off to be reprogrammed which could represent a problem,

Yeah, the numbers quoted are small but the GT2860RS is rate for up to 360HP so I reckon the 198HP specified is for an engine setup which is using the standard Cobalt components.CLICKY

I will be junking the standard ECU and running everything off my Emerald EMS so no problems with ECU reprogramming.

I hear you vocky but I do like this configuration and I think the kit is something I can work with immediately. Such a kit would be installed with the following:
  • Emerald EMS
  • MSD Ignition and coils
  • Dbilas intake, modified with a set of VXR injectors in the runners
  • 68mm TB
  • Cylinder head mods (porting+valves+springs+cams)
  • Eagle rods (maybe a crank too)
  • Wesco pistons
Rob, this is my first venture into turbo mods and to be honest the first time I've cracked open an engine this big. All my previous engine work has been in the realm of the motorcycle. So rather than trying to build an all out FI race spec engine from the oil pan up first time I think I'm should screw my head back on and start with something smaller. I'd hate to mess up something like an expensive billet crank due to inexperience!!!

Just have to work on the maths to see if the Compressor and Turbine maps give the power and if it's where I want it.

BTW if anybody who has cracked open and reassembled an Ecotec could provide a list of specialist (engine assembly) tools I'd need for the above build I'd appreciate it. My spanner and socket took-kit me thinks needs some expansion plus it's so much more fun when you have the right tool for the job :P

Hmmm not sure this kit will actuallly fit. The chassis runs pretty near the exhaust manifold as is :(
