Just got back from Plans after doing there driver training / Stig challenge thingy. What a top day! Money permitting, this is one thing i think all VX owners should do, especially if your into track days. The instruction was absolutely first class and i learnt more with a couple of hours of good instruction than what i had previously learnt in over a year of road and track day use with the vx. That said, i still managed to go off at the infamous 'follow-through' where the Stig had his big off in the kooooonnnnigggggsigggg and i nearly did literally follow through , after doing a 360 at just under 100mph myself and Andy (instructor) both would of probably benefited from an anal evacuation of sorts. Fortunately, most of the rotating was carried out on the tarmac with only the final part of the pirouette being on the grass, so was able to run through the gravel and continue on track. The car was absolutely brilliant as well. Part of Andy's reasoning for the spin, other than my inability behind the wheel, was that he hadn't anticipated how bloody fast the thing would go on the short straight from the hammer-head to the follow-through, so the recomended lift off point as agreed on the sighting laps was a little bit late. However, as the morning progressed it became apparent that the main reason for the spin was my feeling and understanding of weight transfer and balance of the car all of which was explained and demonstrated very clearly as the morning progressed. They also fitted the car with some very impressive data logging equipment the results of which were explained in great detail after the track sessions. They were even able to overlay the plots from my laps with the plots from my business partners laps in his S1 Audi Exige, which was really interesting to see how the different driving techniques alter the speeds through the various corners. This info shows so clearly where further improvments can be made, so if i get the opportunity to go again i will hopefully be able to set some faster lap times. (when Nitrons are fitted) In summary, big thumbsup to all at Plans especially Andy and Graham for an extreemly well organised a well structured morning in a fantastic facility with some top notch tuition. Highly recommended to everyone. :D

Prices start at £189 for all the tuition etc. if you want the data loging its a bit more, they also do an in car video package. Graham showed us some clips from other cars once we had finished and the quality and sound is excellent, with cameras inside and outside the car with split screen images so you can see what effect the steering imputs are having on whats going on outside the car. We would of probably gone for this option if we had seen how good it was before we went out on track. Very handy to refer back to at a later date as its a bit difficult to take in all the info in such a short space of time.

I think the 'all singing all dancing' option is £249 this includes one to one instuction, timed laps, so you can compare yourself to the Stig, data logging with post session analysis and de-briefing and video footage of track sessions. Check out the link below which details whats included.

We were there for the whole morning and on track for about 2 hours, when you consider how much time is spent actually on track on a conventional sesioned track day ( maybe 4 or 5 sesions 15 to 20 mins long) its actually very good value. Plus you have one to one instruction for the entire time with data loging and video if required thumbsup.

It did peel the tyres up a bit, but you sort of expect that i guess.

Sorry, just checked... I was thinking of the Exige.

Although, I've often wondered how much the VXT was slowed down by having the roof off....

 Alex's Vxt has a bit more than stock, 300bhp AFAIK, on oem suspension though, this all could become a bit embarrassing ;)

Hi All, Alex is a little too modest to post his times....... He was suppoosed to do 6 timed laps but his session was cut short as there was a dog on the circuit..! his third run was 1.28.5.. thumbsup which he was quite pleased with....(not bad for a fat bloke) He keeps telling me that he could have gone much faster if only I had bothered to order his Nitrons on time  oh and before you ask..... The dog did a 3.46... not bad for a westie....... Regards wayne @pro alloy

The fist stigs (Perry McCarthy) times never seemed as fast as the current stigs. I know the 2 never tested the same car on the same day but i always got the feeling the present Stig is a bit faster. No real relevance just thought i'd comment. :)

Just to let you know the current Stig is Ben Elliot. He actually advertises on this site. I think Ben is a great driver but i'm sure if he is quite as good as Perry. Perry certainly has achieved more in his career to be fair... despite being well known for being unlucky! I had a really good time at Plans. My time in the NSX is really slipping down the board. There is a great time by a guy in a Maserati Spyder. I can't be beaten by that boat so i'll be back!
