Its all gone pear shaped...after spendig the last 5 months under cover, being pampered every other day and having spent upwards of £800 sprucing/tidying her up inc recon alloys, recon interior/engine vents, respray front clam (stonechips), re-apply armourfend (everywhere this time!), 4 new tyres, battery etc i had her in for the yearly service, upon removal of the spark plugs the 1st chamber began filling up with coolant!!!!...yeh i know!!...after pressure testing a hairline fracture was found at the bottom of the chamber caused by the previous plugs not being torqued properly and being too tight causing a fracture upon removal of the old plugs!...aparently!! :beat: To say i was less than impressed is an understatement! So im looking for a new cylinder head for the 2.2 16v if any one has one or knows of anyone that can help it would be much appreciated..cash waiting! The car is a 2002 model on 35k miles and outwith warranty i believe! Thanks..... :(

Thanks for the replies..all very helpful as usual! I guess i am unlucky but these things happen, i haven't lost faith in the car as this was down to human error! Its bloody well looked after and i've had next to no problems with it, so it'll be all good once its fixed! chinky chinky Does the head from the guy luna bought the rocker cover from look a bit tatty or will that clean up easily and will it be ok after sitting in a shed for a year!! Got quoted £400 from Lea Valley Motors Ltd (using partsgateway.co.uk) is this normal price, anyone have any experience of this company? Looking at it i don't think the rear clam will need to come off, removing the boot lid, under tray, wheels and wheels arches should give enough room?? opinions anyone?? Thanks again....

400 isnt bad, i think its 500 from vauxhall direct, tried autovaux? head should clean up ok, but probs best sticking new stem seals in - you get them in a head set decoke and a valve regrind, im guessing you want an easy option i'd get a recon head + new chain kit + gasket set head will come off with difficulty with the clam on, but really its a doddle to remove the clam btw bought the rocker cover to check weight differences between plastic and alloy  got it cheap worth a shot

bit off topic but can you really crack the head with a too tightly torqued sparkplug?? Changed mine loads and just use a sparkplug wrench to do the "tightish"

Thanks luna..missed out on the one in aberdeen by £15..aaghh! it went for £290..think i'll go for the one for £400 as its gauranteed and he's gonna skim it for me! How much would it cost for new timing chain and is it a b*stard to fit? How much should i expect to pay for removal/fitting of the head, the gasket and the chain anyone? Thanks again.

There are a few engines on ebay at the moment. Might be worth contacting the seller to ask if they have one. Aslo might interest Luna_s as I am unsure what you are still looking for before the might rebuild starts.

Ive pretty much got everything now, just waiting on stuff (as usual) - seems to be a lot of waiting when you get engine rebuilds..........

as for head, just keep an eye out on ebay,

my cylinder head came from redmans engine centre off ebay, they did a good job of reconditioning it cheaply.

either that or stump up the cash to get a recon unit from vauxhall ? - about 500 quid iirc

things always start to get very expensive very quickly when the engines involved, :(

good luck

oh engine express gave me a good quote - maybe have a word with them ?
