I was told about this a few days ago....until the facts were known it was decided not to post any details.

Others will be able to provide more info'

It is in todays "THE NEWS" and therefore of public interest. I will try to scan and post the article.

Indeed - on the other hand though, it is great to see how well the VX stands up to crashes like that (well other than the fact it's totally destroyed), as the driver walked away essentially unscathed! thumbsup

From the article you could draw a conclusion that the 106 didn't see the VX coming and pulled out of the side road in front of him. With weather like it was, if the VX was in a shady patch of road it would have been awkward to see if the sun was in the other driver's eyes!

If it is where I think it is.....Church Rd junction with Botley Rd...it is an awful junction which you can not see out of unless you edge out slowly...it has a stop sign rather than a give way. The Botley road is a fast road which has recently had the speed dropped from nationals to 50's and lower. Hence the double white lines in the center of the road.

Good to hear everyone was ok!! I'm glad it looks worse than it really was. That was very similar to my accident (damage wise) its yet another testament to how safe and strong the VX's are. I'm sure if it was any other small car the outcome would be somewhat different. Maybe he can make a few quid and sell it to Imran to repair!!! :beat: :D (sorry, any chance to have a dig)

That really does look horrific, really lucky to have walked away in one peice. It looks like the shock has moved about 12-18" back, so must be major chassis damage. Nice to know that the airbag went off - don't hear of it very often. I always wondered what burns would be suffered by it tho

I picked mine up saturday and went down this road. Got diverted..... that explains that then! Is a nice fast road but everyone pulls out of the side roads without looking  Close by for Silverlake!

Wonder how it happened..?

Possible scenario...

Peugeot driver turns right from side road without properly checking both ways. Pulls across the path of oncoming VX. Cars connect front right of Peugeot to front right of VX.

To clear up a few things, my neices partner was one of the first on the scene and told myself and a couple of other VX'ers about the incident at a party on Saturday night. It would appear that a Land Rover pulled out onto the road in front of the VX, giving the VX plenty of space, the road is a 40 mph limit. The VX, instead of slowing down while the Land Rover got upto speed (apparently there was plenty of space for the Landy to pull out), so the VX overtook the Landy, without much looking to see what was on-coming and slammed into the 106 which was coming the other way. No time for either driver to react when the VX pulled out, the 106 driver was practically passing the landrover in the opposite direction. No time to brake or avioid. The chap I know gave the VX driver CPR, as he collapsed with shock, the VX driver apparently wasn't too bothered about the other people involved and didn't thank my neices partner for resusetating [sp] him. So as far as I'm aware, and let me clear on this, I'm only relaying what was told to me by someone at the scene (the source of second image IIRC). The VX driver was going too fast, didn't look before attempting to overtake the Landy and slammed head on, into the 106. Even VX drivers can be idiots sometimes (as we know from some previous members). The intital assessment on the day was that the girl driving the 106 may be paralysed, thank god it would appear that she'll be OK and make a full recovery. As mentioned above though, this is true testament to the strength of our little plastic cars. A despite who si to blame for the incident, I'm just very happy that all people involved seem to have gotten way without life threatening injury. The above post is NOT MY OPINION or true to events, just what I'd been told about it at the time.

Good write up ash thumbsup PS hope the party was a good un. sometimes hearing news like this puts a bit of a bummer on things when your trying to chill/recharge the batterys. Re nieces partner doing CPR, not the best of things to do on yer saturday night out, but as the night wore on he must of bin givin himself a bit of a pat on the back for doin it an givin his best. An he probably got an extra cuddle of the neice.

Cheers Tash, after writing it I thought maybe I should've kept it much shorter in case I find myself saying too much. But just giving the info as it was recieved really. It happened on just before midday, and yeah, he was chuffed with himself (even if he got no thanks). I think my neice is quite proud. He did ask the guy if he was on the forum ('cos he knows I am) and the guy said no (I should have written that earlier). The party was good thanks, it was for my wife's birthday this Sunday, we'll be out of the country on a rather special holiday for her birthday so had the party a week before.

I think the point I and who ever else was trying to make, was that given the state of the car he was lucky not have been seriously injured or worse. Obviously, saying he was lucky to have written his VX off is like saying:
"today, lucky for me. I trod in an exceptionally large dog turd!" (is that lucky I don't know...... oh that's right it's supposed to be lucky if a seagull craps on you.... :P
