I needed some new tyres cos I found a gash the other day, thought I'd give these a go, the Frenchies seem to like them and they are:

1. A damn sight cheaper than Bridgestones

2. Errr.....

Okay, so they are cheaper, thats about it.

I went for Eagle F1 GSD3's
195/45/17 81w Front, £68 each
225/45/17 91w (xl) Rear £75 each

only went for the XL rear cos it's all the Goodyear factory had in stock, so could have taken weeks to make some. should be no problem, they did em for the same price.

Not sure about tyre pressures, I'll make'em up as I go along, I'll report back tomorrow after a road test.

also they have a cool tread pattern

How dare you not go for Bridgestone? Don't you realise that you'll instantly crash! :) Let us know how they perform - I'm interested in any alternatives, especially if they are cheaper...

Im about 600 miles into a set of the gsd3 on my fabia - beggining to feel quite good on grip but we are talking about a skoda! Since reading about the 195 fronts on standard alloys I'd been thinking about it for the vx as well. Looking forward to your impressions.

i used them for 6 months, i thought they held the road fantasticly, i have also tried michelin pilot sports and even nankang budget tyres on the 12 or so sets of wheels i obtained over 6 years, its a tried and tested fact that 16 fronts with 205 45 16 transformed the car in terms of handling and response, i didnt know the goodyears were available in for the standard fronts but u wont regret buying them.

   Has anybody tried 195s in the front before? I assume they go on OK if you have them fitted, but do they look OK? I guess they may provide less understeer than the bridgestones too? please keep us updated!!

I have them on my 540i (235 F and 265 R). I prefer them to Mich PS and Conti CS2 which I've also tried on the car - they seem to grip as well in the dry, better in the wet and are the quietest of the 3. I hadn't thought about them for the VX but will bear it in mind.

Yeah, looked at them too, however my price (£18 more for the lot) includes fitting, balancing, valves and disposal of old tyres.

Also the 45 ratio sidewall is going top be fine due to the increase upto 195 width... ...I hope!

I'll tell ya tomorrow, with pictures of course!

Well, I 'hope' it all goes ok.

CBA to search it....but I wouldn't imagine that sort of overlap of the sidewall and the rim width is going to be great..in terms of 'looks' and sidewall flex.

NEWS FELLAS - THEY WORK PERFECT AND ARE THE ONLY CORRECT TYRES TO USE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Care to back that up? from anywhere on the interweb?

Oooh this is interesting. I had GSD-3s on my MX-5 and loved the excellent grip that they gave in all weathers. thumbsup ...although 195 on the front sounds, well, wrong.....

That is a great saving over the Bridgestones assuming that they offer similar performance and wear? An update after 5000 miles?
