ok so drove up to my auntys today with no problems at all, parked up and left it for 2hours back in and it was sounding awefull, knocking etc with oil light on, turned it off, checked oil and that was fine at the perfect level, fired up again and the same so a gentle rev and it went away, drove home steady and had a listen and at 1-2k revs it has abit of a rattly noise from the engine........oil pump not working correct orrrrrr??
getting to the point of having enough now and selling up after this is solved.
be greatfull for any replys.
thanks

is the noise top or bottom end?
is it worse or better when warm?
I was initially thinking maybe big end rattle when the big end bearings are fubar...
if the pump was gone the car wouldn't have got home without blowing up, as it can't go far without oil circulating and being pumped back to the top end. i guess you'd hear a top end rattle first if no oil there.
you'll have to get more info....

i have a mate on the way up here now to have a look, the engine is a very good spec built for 500bhp and was all rebuilt less than 4k miles ago, crap always seems to come in lots
i'll see whats what when he gets here and update

If its knocking then sounds like could be big end bearings tbh. They can cause the oil pressure to drop due to clearance between bearing and crank increasing.
Big end bearings are most noticable at 1-2k rpm under engine breaking or light load, when you give it some throttle the knocking will probably disappear.

After my big end bearings went at Silverstone. Although I had just driven 35 miles home at that point.

all sorted now, there is a bolt with a long spring on it with some release thingy on? the release thingy was sticking and took us hours to get it out, got it out, scotched it and cleaned it all up, its running 100% well now
thanks for all the replys

That sounds like the chain tensioner and a known cause of (fatal) problems...
Better fit the improved version from the Z20NET engine.

It's a turbo.

That'll be the oil pressure relief valve. There known for sticking on the earlier c20xe engine which the bottom end of the z20let is loosely based on.
I think I would be inspecting the bottom end bearings for damage if you have been driving it with low oil pressure. If they are scored replace them as driving the engine with them scored is probably going to lead to a failure in the future.

i think they may need replacing, there was no noise from it at all today or last night but driving up the hill home from work just now it started to rattle like made between 1-2k revs
all i can say is gutted and expect this car to be for sale in the near future once engine is repaired and remapped/exhaust on.
