After doing some unrelated tinkering, I noticed I had some wobble on my crankshaft pulley (2.2 N/A) http://dl.dropbox.co..._mpeg2video.mpg (sorry, not sure how you embed these things) Does that look excessive to you guys? I need to decide if I should risk attending the trackday I have booked for tomorrow.

Or me. Is the pulley tight on the shaft or is the whole shaft moving? Doesn't sound good

It's not a streaming video. Right click the link and Save As or whatever option your browser offers to download the file and then play it back on your PC.

I could see nothing wrong in the video with the engine running  the pulley might have a tiny wobble but nothing to worry about thumbsup if the pulley moves about by hand then you would have a serious problem

Nope, naff all movement by fingertip, about 2mm with a very small pry bar, so probably fine Posted Image
Of course Vocky, if it shears off tomorrow or kills my crank I'm holding you responsible Posted Image

(Joke, just in case the silly pink smileys don't make that clear...)

I would take no chances and replace it. I have heard from several people (I know: not comparable) with a 1.9 TDI VW engine that they got a broken crankshaft from a similar problem, so this can't be good for your engine either.. Gr, The Duke

Surely your pulley would have to be seriously out of balance to damage the crankshaft and the way that the z22se pulley is fitted I can't see how it could be that far out of balance unless the pulley was seriously damaged or the bolt had come loose?

At 7600RPM I'm sure the forces involved are probably quite high, so despite it surviving a good thrashing today I'm probably going to swap it out for piece of mind when I take the timing cover off to check how my oil pump gears are holding up. On a side note, I enquired how much one costs with the VX220 specific part number and it was about £15 more than the identical Astra part!
