Discovered that the gearbox side of my nice clean engine bay is now splattered in green slime - nice. Cleaned up the undertrays and got carried away and they now look like polished chrome  Need some guidance on replacement of the boots though, basically 'to-do's' and more more importantly what 'no to-do's'

Chris,

Quite a straight forward job. Are you fitting OE or aftermarket boots? What retainers came with the kit?

No, nothing else from the Vauxhall range fits, as far as I could find. Results of what I did find, were as follows.

Inner CV boot kit (GM Part No: 9197858)

Quinton Hazel replacement, part no: QJB1033

Also used on:

Honda NSX 3.0i VTEC; 3.2i VTEC 06/90-
Kia Carnival 2.5i 24V; 2.9TDi 16V 08/99-10/01

Outer CV boot kit (GM Part No: 9197864)

Quinton Hazel replacement, part no: QJB910

Also used on:-

Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero 2.5TD; 2.8TD; 3.0i; 3.0i 24V; 3.2DI-D 4x4 01/90-
______________________3.5i 24V; 3.5i GDI 24V 06/94-
Mitsubishi Pajero / Shogun Classic 2.5TD 4x4 07/02-
Mitsubishi Pajero / Shogun Sport 2.5TD 4x4 07/02-
____________________________3.0i 4x4 11/98-
Mitsubishi Space Wagon 2.0TD; 2.0i 08/92-01/00
Mitsubishi L200 2.5TD 4x4 11/01-

Not been able to find any alternative CV joints though.

why is that, are the driveshafts funny, the hubs are standard bits. Do they run with a drivers side two piece axle, equal length final driveshaft

No idea. Never looked at a driveshaft, let alone handle one before this car. I guess it's just a non-standard CV joint that dictates what boot is used. I spent about 6 hours trying to find a matching inner CV joint. Got as far as searching the OEM's (LTN) very limited catalogue based on the model number engraved on the joint itself. Managed to find the specific range the inboard joint comes from but couldn't find an equivalent on another car. Closest I got was something from a Land Rover of all things but I couldn't be sure it was a match.

As far as the boots are concerned, buy OEM as everything else I have tried has been useless.

Yup, but you get everything you need and it won't split. Bite the bullet Nick, it is worth it.

Sorry for the thread resurrection.

I'm looking for new boots for the Europa and see that the QH ones are a bit cheaper than the GM ones.

Can anyone give an opinion on quality betwen the OE and QH ones?

Cheers
