I'm seriously considering buying my first VX220. I have just come out of a very unhappy relationship with an (older) Evo which has left my wallet badly battered. I don't want to make the same mistake again so can anyone help with the folowing question. Do VX220s cost much more to run than a regular car due to reliability, parts costs or poor construction issues? I realise each car is different and it depends on a wide variety of factors. However, what is the general experience of people on this forum I wonder?

It varies. The engines and gearboxes are obviously the same as an Astra/Vectra so those sorts of bits are cheap. Also things like brake discs which are shared with std Vaux stuff are crazy cheap. However, specialist things like clams or headlights can be mentally expensive. Having said that though, if you are patient you can get such things second hand off cars that are being regularily broken apart.

:yeahthat: it all depends on what you class as 'running costs' and how anal you are about looking after your car.

If you are focussing on day-to-day fuel and servicing costs (oil, filter, discs, pads etc) then it really is cheap motoring. However if you are a fuss-pot (or "Fanny" in words of Slindborg) then it can get expensive quickly (which it sounds like you may be, with descriptions of your Evo ownership) as you'll be swapping old for new regularly... It's gotten to the point when the missus and my best man (+wife) snigger and pass comment.

Just refilled the tank after Saturday's drive back on the motorway drive back. It was my first time in the SC VX so considering it was pissing it down I sat at 70ish. Just worked out new tank and miles and I get 42.5mpg. Wtf?

Not to sure what MPG you get from your evo but i know a lad at work that would not come up to the lakes with us in his as it would have cost to much(so used an old van)also he drives very slow all the time and will not boot it much. Now to me what is the point of a fast car if you wont use it.You can "play" all day in the VX and it wont cost an arm and a leg.Just my 2P worth.
